I am sad to report the passing of one of our own, Kimberly Jo Williams, in Texas. A member of Fire & Skoal and the Women in Science Project, Kim graduated summa cum laude. A tremendous scholar, she went on to two and half years at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis on a full academic scholarship. She had to withdraw due to illness and moved back to Dallas to be with family in 2004. She lost her long battle on February 7. Her parents, Barry and Karen, and her extended family encourage donations to the College or any children's charity in Kimberly's name as a way of remembering her. She will be missed.
On a happier note, baby news abounds, particularly among the class officers. Class vice president Lanea Tripp and husband Simon Tripp are expecting their baby in May. Class president Kimberly Haring and husband Brian aren't far behind, with their first due in July. Alumni Fund head agent Sara Paisner is expecting her first in June.
Alicia Jennings is the maven of baby news. She writes, "My husband, Michael Mershon, and I are expecting our first—a little boy—on June 3." Alicia also reports that Kerry (Marsh) and Thad Haas welcomed Madelyn Margaret slightly earlier than planned on March 23. Madelyn joins big brother Brayden and big sister Annika.
KC Danzansky and her husband, Scott Dillon, are expecting their first child August 30.
Sara (Goodson) and Lloyd Sabin's daughter Mia Lily was bom on March 9. As I write this Kia (Morley) and Matt Mellon are expecting their first baby any day now! Heather (Morein) and Charley French are expecting their first in late September.
Wedding bells were ringing on April 18 in Santa Rosa, California, where Matt Garabedian married Wendy Worral. In attendance were '96s Bruce Turpie and Josh Maguire. The event featured much wine tasting in the California sun. Both bride and groom are in the last two years of their residencies, Wendy in internal medicine and Matt in 08. Congrats!
In non-bambino news, Ben Brainard, V.M.D., writes, "I finally have something to report!" Ben just finished a dual residency in veterinary critical care and anesthesia, and is happy to note that he finally has a job. By now Ben should have moved from the northern splendor of Philly to music hot spot Athens, Georgia, to help start the ICU and critical care program at the veterinary school at the University of Georgia. Ben also writes, I have seen many Dartmouth graduates recently, who, while they wish to remain anonymous, insist that they are all 'doing fine.'"
While Ben may not mind a little anonymity among friends, such an approach threatens my very being as your class secretary. Without news, I am nothing. Remember, it's not bragging, just sharing your joy and good karma with old friends.
Until next time.
