June saw the mighty class of 1996 return to the Upper Valley for a well-attended 10 th reunion. Never mind the fact that we graduated nine years ago, it was great to see classmates and their families, as well as '95 and '94 friends. The tent outside of Tuck rocked until the wee hours on Friday and Saturday as we all enjoyed a weekend under the New Hampshire stars.
While in Hanover, the class elected a new slate of class officers who will serve until our reunion in 2010. Rookies Kimberly Haring, Lanea Tripp and yours truly will serve respectively as president, vice president and secretary, while Adam Medros graciously agreed to continue as treasurer. Thanks to Zach Stein, who managed the election as nomination chair. Class officers will head to Hanover in September for Class Officers Weekend—amusingly known as COW—for some intense training and dinner at Panda House. We are still constructing the executive committee as we speak; look for an updated list in the next issue.
Alas, I was elected on Day 2 of reunion and did not bring my reporter's notebook with me to Hanover. Please forgive me if you passed along some juicy info and I blanked. I promise that all who get in touch from here on in will have my full attention.
Globetrotting Bill Tovell spent most of 2003 learning how to surf and scuba dive in Vietnam and Australia. He toured more than 16 countries, including favorites New Zealand, Italy and Croatia. He has settled back in New York for a third time back at JPMorgan in their corporate M & A group. Bill was sporting a fashionable cane at reunion and denying rumors that he had been shot. He has since fully recovered from a torn tendon in his right foot. He thanks Dr. Wendi (Potter) McKenna for showing him the proper way to walk on a cane.
Bill reports that Matt Wiltshire recently made the move from New York City back home to Nashville. Matt, his wife, Lisa, and son John Ashley have settled in Matt's hometown and he even bought a minivan. Matt continues his career in investment banking at Avondale Partners.
Sara Paisner reports that she will be marrying "a guy named Howard" on September 25. The '96s who will be attending the festivities aboard the Tall Ship Clipper City in Baltimore are Eliza Barry Riker (maid of honor), currently living in Bermuda; Beth Bloodgood (bridesmaid), currently living in Philadelphia; Derek Shendell, living in California; Andrew Friedman, living in N.Y.C.; and Neesha Ramchandani, living in N.Y.C). Sara also reports that Chris Linton might also make an appearance during the weekend, taking a break from his new medical practice in D.C.
Closer to my home in the Massachusetts 'burbs, Jason Dunklee just started a new job as a manufacturing consultant, helping biotech companies make the transition from R&D to production. He lives in Cambridge but spent the summer exploring New England and Guatemala with his girlfriend.
As for me, I am in my eighth year of teaching
English, and coaching soccer and squash at Brooks School. As a reward for my extended service, or just to keep me from resorting to violence, the powers that be saw fit to give me a house that frees me from dorm duty. After seven years of cohabiting with teenagers, I am a free woman when I am not in the classroom, on the field, on the court, in meetings or planning the prom. So drop me a line and let me know what is happening out there in the real world.
