Well, '02s, it's been four years since we graduated. We've been away from Dartmouth for as long as we were there. Only one short year until our five-year reunion!
I heard from only a few of our classmates over the last couple months. Aly Rahim sent me the following message: 'After nearly eight years in the United States, I'm back in Canada. I've taken a post at the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs in Ottawa, where I am working in the conflict-prevention and peace-building group of Canada's new stabilization and reconstruction task force secretariat. My wife, Zaileen, has taken a job with an environmental engineering firm working on water management systems. Though we'll miss our friends and life in D.C., we're excited about putting down roots in Ottawa."
As usual I also received notice of an engagement. Gabe Brooks wrote to inform me of his engagement to Jessica Weisbein, one of his medical school classmates and a cousin of Jon Cohen. Gabe and Jessica will be married in the Philadelphia area in June of 2007. Gabe graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in May of this year and moved to Denver to start his residency in internal medicine at the University of Colorado Health System Jim Willett '01, also a UPenn graduate, will be a fellow resident with him.
A couple of our classmates have been featured in the media recently.
First, The New York Times ran a notice in the February 14 edition about classmate Sonny Ford's new position at the Ford Motor Co. Sonny joined the labor relations department following two years teaching middle school in Alexandria, Virginia. The Times notice said, "Edsel Ford, 57 said he urged his son to consider that post, calling it one of the most important areas for Ford's future,' given pending contract talks in 2007 with the United Automobile Workers union."
Second, the episode of the ABC drama Commanderin Chief titled "Ties That Bind," which aired on April 27 was written by Alex Berger. Alex was credited along with co-writer Cynthia J. Cohen in the opening credits.
Finally, Sara Irom and I will both be moving to New York City in June to begin a year-long internship at the Animal Medical Center following our graduations from the Ohio State University and Tufts University veterinary schools, respectively, this spring. The next column will include my new address in New York. Until then, please send all updates electronically.
