Greetings '02s. I received just a couple e-mails so I'll just give you the complete messages rather than editing them down to squeeze more people in. First off, Caroline Newman wrote, "I am in my third year of teaching fifth grade in Houston through Teach for America. I'm enjoying myself but planning on moving on to something new in June. I actually have something exciting to write in about for once: a Dartmouth reunion in the Lone Star State! Eight of my '02 friends—Jana Schaich Borg, Nina Markey, Brooke Derham, Joanna Edwards, Yanni Liu, Kristin Bellanca, Liz McKeon and Megan Harrison—flew into Houston from the East Coast this past January to have some fun Texan style. We went out dancing to some Cajun bluegrass, gorged on Mexican food and dropped a cake on the floor of a restaurant. Also, I ran the Houston marathon, while Liz and Yanni ran the half-marathon. The rest of the girls cheered us on with a giant 'Go Dartmouth Hotties' sign and waited for us at the finish line with mimosas." The contributor of the second e-mail wishes to remain unnamed but I wanted to be sure to include the news: Rachel Pfeiffer is down in Washington, D.C., working as the NAACP Legal Defense Fund's research director. Adam Gottlieb, Julia Pinover, Sonny Ford and Peter Goodson are also down in Washington, D.C.Adam and Julia are both students at Georgetown Law School. Julia is a 1L and Adam is a 3L and is going to work as an associate at the N.Y.C. office of Fred Frank next year. Sonny is working as a teacher and Peter is working at the Carlyle group. In New York City Mary Cipollone is working at an organization called Street Squash, which tutors kids and teaches them how to play squash. Mary also runs a book club among other things. She lives with Liz Wilder, who moved to there last summer after 15 months in Tanzania setting up a mentoring program for street kids. Liz is now a paralegal for an organization called Children's Rights, which takes on class action suits for abused or neglected kids. Annie Castellani is moving up the chain of command at CNN, working on the news desk. Rob Huntington is also in N.Y.C., living with Jake Osterhout on the Upper West Side. Rob is, among other things, teaching people how to tutor the SATs and Jake is getting a graduate degree in writing at Columbia. Doug Heitner is a 2L at NYU Law. Joel Schudson lives on the Upper East Side with Kris Thorgeirsson. Kris is finishing up his M.F.A. in directing at Columbia and has a really neat show goingup this spring. Joel is writing music. Matt Siegle also lives in N.Y.C., but he made the jump out to Brooklyn, where he works as a studio assistant for the sculptor Don Gummer. He also makes his own art, which has been shown at several galleries in downtown Manhattan. In Connecticut Jeff Withers is finishing up his M.F.A. at Yale, Chad Cookinham is in his second year teaching at a boarding school called The Gunnery, and Mo Bydon is getting his M.D. at Yale. Finally, Michael Breen is serving with the U.S. Army overseas. He's already completed over a year-long tour in Iraq and will be in Afghanistan for another tour.
So that's the news! If you read this column and never know any of the people mentioned, send me an e-mail with notes about everyone you know and maybe you'll see it here in a couple months. Happy July 4th everyone!
