Medical School news item reminds us of Sachem Village, married vets housing on Hovey Lane, which is now a high school athletic field. The buildings were duplex apartments and somewhat drafty. They were removed to the West Lebanon Road in 1958. Concurrently, there was Wigwam Circle, married student housing near Thayer School, which consisted of two-story barracks with four apartments in each. Fran and Dr. Lee Bartholomew left Westport on Lake Champlain for Albany, where she is involved in dog agility training. Dr. Hardy Hendren, who retired from his surgical practice in 2004, had a heart valve replaced last June followed by knee replacements in October. Former class president Alan Epstein, when asked to comment on the class and College, reminds us that we have known six of the 16 presidents of the College. John Trethaway attended the Nossiter memorial lecture given by Charles Sennott, Neiman fellow at Harvard and a former bureau chief for the Boston Globe. John talked with Josh Nossiter after the talk. At the May Monday luncheon in Hanover were Foote, Dobson, Trethaway Harris, Reed, Leary, Phippen and Athletic Director Josie Harper. Talk centered on the success of the women's lacrosse team. Dan Carroll, from Avon, Colorado, reports that Iggie Lohse's grandson Jonathan received early admission in the class of 2010. Jigs Fullers wife, Deanne, died this spring from Alzheimer's disease. They were married for 57 years. Bob Craig continues to participate in Elderhostel trips, including a trip to Hawaii in 2005. John Trethaway completed a good ski season at Mt. Sunapee. Following a trip to North Carolina, he is teaching a course in foreign policy at the Institute for History Education at Dartmouth, of which his wife, Helen Bridge, is president. Ev Nordstrom moved to Kennebunk, Maine, from North Carolina in 2004. His grandchildren are pursuing graduate degrees. His wife continues to sing and is appearing in a Granite State Opera production of Madame Butterfly. We were saddened by the sudden death of former class president Townes Harris on May 29. Our sympathy is extended to his family. Keep in touch.
