I am writing this article on my way home from our fabulous Camp Dartmouth 20th reunion. (Don't worry, I am not driving.) Dan Katzir and Mike Moody led a huge team of people to make the reunion such a success. They thought of everything—down to the Cheerios and PB&J at the class tent. There were 270 classmates. Add spouses and children, and we're talking700-plus with 1986 affiliation walking around campus that weekend. At the class dinner on Saturday night head agent Howie Hayes and his team of fundraisers presented President Wright with a considerable check for $700,086 on behalf of the class of '86 forthe Dartmouth Alumni Fund! Jeff Weiss will be serving as our class president for the next five years. Bruce Chafee will be Jeff's right hand man as VP and Andrea Lordan will find yet another space in her schedule to make sure our finances are in order as treasurer. After 10 delightful years I am stepping down as class secretary and passing the pen to Mark Greenstein. I trust you will be as kind and generous with "scoop" or just the basics about what you're doing. No piece of information is too big or too small. We should also give a hearty rouse to our outgoing officers: Bill Rodgers, Joy Turnheim (even if for a brief period) and Ann Rooney Ewing as treasurer. If you aren't already aware, we have a new class Web site, which will enhance our interaction and communication more than ever. Go to www.dartmouth8 6.org and browse around. Thanks to John Marchiony for getting this alums online project up and running at warp speed. If you would like to read the minutes to the class meeting, they are posted on the site. Two notes: This fall alumni will be asked to consider and vote on a new proposed alumni constitution. You can get more information at http://alumni.dartmouth.edu/leadership/ index.html or by contacting Jeff Weiss at jweiss@vantagepartners.com. Additionally, ifyou know of anyone who would qualify as a candidate for a trustee post, feel free to contact Jeff or Andrea (andrea hugh@msn.com).
Unfortunately, our reunion included some sadness. Our classmate Jennifer Ann Kay passed away on May 1 after a valiant batde with renal cancer. At Dartmouth Jennifer completed a double major in mathematics and computer science. She also participated in a Dartmouth environmental studies program in Kenya. After graduation Jennifer worked in the computer software industry for 14 years. In 2001 she decided to pursue her passion for mathematics and helping young, underprivileged women and taught high school mathematics. Last year Jennifer was accepted into a master's fellowship in teaching in Washington, D.C, with a focus on improving mathematics education for young women, but was unable to begin her studies. Jennifer is survived by her husband, Oliver P. Metzger '8 8; her mother, Donna Bradley Kay; sister Jane Kay Julian and brother Joshua B. Kay. The Jennifer A. Kay Foundation is devoted to the goal of promoting and improving the study of math and science by young women. Please consider making a donation in memory of one of our nine classmates who sadly could not be with us at reunion. You can send the donation to the Jennifer A. Kay Foundation, 84 Aspen Drive, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.
For those of you who attended the reunion, I hope you left with renewed affiliation and eagerness to stay involved. If you couldn't make it, I hope you will consider a trip to Hanover to see that glorious campus, new dorms, buildings and people. Come back to Dartmouth again.
