Hello '99s! Another summer is drawing to a close, and I hope you all had a chance to make the most of the good weather. Quite a few of us report big changes in our lives that I am happy to share with you.
Cassie Miller writes that, after six years of work in New York as a buyer, she is moving across the pond to study for a Ph.D. in film studies at University College-London. Her roommate Caroline Kaufman will be in nearby France, studying for her M.B.A. at INSEAD. Cassie writes: "We recently had a going-away party here attended by some other New York alums: Heather and ChrisRoss (in a rare night out since the birth of their second child), Karen Yen (who just started a new job as in-house counsel at UBS), Doug and John Lee (who tore themselves away from their own personal pong table) and my cousin Ellie Leahy'01."
Claire (Goldstein) Swanson writes that, after three years of racing Ironman triathlons, she has taken a new challenge: twins! Claire and her partner Matthew Swanson welcomed Eleanor Leah Swanson and Noah Alden Swanson into the world on February 24 at 3:56 and 4:03 p.m., respectively. The twins have already had a good introduction to Dartmouth, thanks to visits by Samantha Sommers, Scott Peach, Brad Verber, Kaitlin (Reidy) Verber and Laura Heinichen (who was so keen to meet Eleanor and Noah that she took a red-eye from Los Angeles!). Claire and Matthew have also made another change, returning to their longtime home of Chicago after spending a year in Denver. The Swanson family has bought a new home just a few blocks from Wrigley Field on Chicago's north side.
In other news Evan Walsh and Katie Dewey (Utica College '00) were married on May 28 in Princeton, Massachusetts. Evan notes that their wedding took place on one of the few warm and sunny weekends seen in the Northeast during an otherwise rain-soaked spring. Several Dartmouth friends helped them celebrate their nuptials, including Jason Shamberger, Kate (Winter) Shamberger '00, Dan Scholnik '00, Cesar Ruiz, Emily (Cornell) Ruiz, Michelle (Ouellette) Coleman, Dave Coleman '97, Jeff Munsie, Holly (Smith) Munsie and Beth (Westman) Gaus. Evan and Katie had a memorable honeymoon in Barbados and are settling into married life in their home in Stoneham, Massachusetts.
Finally, I myself am happy to share wedding news of my own. On June 8 Tony Perry married Ecaterina Radvan, a graduate student at the University of Essex, in a small, intimate ceremony in London. Thanks to the Internet, family and friends from throughout the world, including Wayne DeBeatham and Jeff McDaniel '02, shared in the celebrations. The happy couple will celebrate their new lives together with visits to Pakistan, Moldova and the United States during the next few months, and plan to live in London.
That's all the news for now. Enjoy the last days of summer and I look forward to hearing more updates from you soon!
