The final results of the 2006-2007 Dartmouth College Fund show that the achievements were nothing short of outstanding for our class. We exceeded our revenue goal and in the process set a new class record for the highest revenue achieved in a non-reunion year ($259,999). We exceeded our participation goal and in the process set a new class record for the highest participation rate achieved in a non reunion year (73.5 percent). We exceeded our number of donors goal and in the process set a net class recorded for the highest number of donors in a reunion and non-reunion year since 1991. Finally, our class beat the class of 1961 from Princeton in the Dartmouth/Princeton Challenge Goal. Kudos and congratulations to head agent Don O'Neill and his support staff: Ralph Barton, Denny Denniston Bill Haysworth, Glen Gemelli, Tom Mauro, Harris McKee and Alan Orschel, and also to Janet Rosa for her tireless efforts on behalf of our class.
Numerous venues were explored, the votes of the class executive committee were counted (and re-counted) and the gods (small "g") have spoken. Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona, will be the site for our class 70th birthday party bash in the spring of 2 009. Our off-campus mini-reunion chair, Dave Prewitt, has assembled a first-rate birthday celebration committee of "locals" (Len Disavino, John King, Jeff Conn, Jim Nova and Jay Torok) to set the agenda and to host the rest of us "tourists."
The Rev. George Bland wrote that he ran into Dave Armstrong and Linda Green in Castine, Maine (wherever that is). According to George, "We had them in for drinks. You can believe it was noisy." I always thought that Maine was a quiet place with quiet people doing quiet things, quietly!
Tammy Keys wrote in for Howie Keys, her husband of 46 years. Apparently, Howie is not yet proficient in using e-mail. Officially retired for more than a decade from a career in personnel work, Howie and Tammy reside on Callawassie Island in Okatie, South Carolina. According to Tammy, they "have room and would enjoy visits." If interested, call the Keys at (843) 987-1572 ore-mail them at thkeys@earthlink.net. Bring your golf clubs, but be aware that Howie recently made his "third hole-in-one in less than a year." Was this miniature golf? It took me a lifetime to make my first, this year.
The Class of '61 Legacy Fund: The American Tradition in Performance is alive and well and is growing in both funding and in stature. "Live at the Hop," the new color brochure for the upcoming 2oo7-o8 Hopkins Center season, devotes an entire page of thanks to its "major endowment donor funds," listing the Class of '61 Legacy Fund along with seven other major nonprofit and corporate sponsors for the current year with "gifts and pledges of $500,000 and above." Not too shabby agroup! Thank you, David Birney, Oscar Arslanian, at. al.
We have begun our connection with the incoming class of 2011. Called the "61-11 Connection we are planning to interact with the 2011s throughout their four-year undergraduate experience at Dartmouth. This should be an exciting class project over the next several years. Be sure to get involved and participate in this rewarding experience.
