Hail, noble '72s, far and wide!

Your humble scribe looked at the calendar this afternoon and realized I was up against another deadline for the DAW and nearly panicked, for I am on vacation about three and a half hours away from my office, files and most other sources of classmate news. In fact, I am so far away I don't even have access to cell service! Yet I am still in New Hampshire. Aah! The cognoscenti among you are muttering, "The lucky dog is hiding out in the College Grant, and has his laptop on battery power." Well, close, my friends, very close. Actually there's a 171,000-plus-acre wilderness just north of the Grant from whence the mighty Connecticut River bubbles forth to begin its journey to the sea. From the shores of the First Connecticut Lake I send my greetings to all!

By the time this reaches you another crew of Pea Greeners will have arrived and settled into life on the Hanover Plain. First-year trips, the "Salty Dog" and rousing nights at the Ravine Lodge will be fond memories as adjusting to the rigors of Dartmouth academics takes center stage in their lives. Seems like it was just yesterday we were where they now are.

The summer, as I expected post-reunion, has been particularly light in the news department. Aside from a few welcome visits from our esteemed brother Shel Prentice, who has been bringing prospective students to our campus for personally guided tours, I've heard little from the masses. I'm sure we've all been traveling and recreating, so I'll let you off the hook this time, but over the next few weeks, gentlemen, you may be hearing from me!

I'm going to ask our new co-scribe Charlie Schudson to author the next column for your reading pleasure as we expand and build continuity in class news reporting, so anything you share with me I'll promptly forward to Charlie.

I hope this abbreviated missal finds you well and at peace. Now, I wonder if there's some place in this glorious wilderness to modem in this column...

Yours always in green.
