I'm sure this dreary February weather has you longing for the cold, icy New Hampshire winters—right? Well, maybe not, but I'm sure it inspires a few nostalgic moments of pining away for a cup of hot cocoa while you thawed in front of the Collis fireplace—oh wait, that doesn't exist anymore. Sigh. Well, here's at least some Dartmouth news to warm the cockles of your heart.
Greg Bates has been promoted to managing director of GE Real Estate's newly created direct investments division. Greg will source and manage large commercial real estate portfolios for GE Real Estate, a leading global resource for commercial real estate capital. Previously Greg was the managing director of multi-family investments for GE Real Estates North America equity division.
I also received an e-mail from Len Mead, who has relocated with his wife, Amanda MacMillan '95, back to their mutual home state of Massachusetts after six years in Connecticut. Len had been working at ESPN while Amanda taught high school science at Greenwich Academy. "Miraculously, we found pretty similar jobs in Massachusetts—I am now the program director at NESN (the network that shows the Red Sox, Bruins and even the occasional Dartmouth game), while Amanda is now teaching at Newton Country Day. We have an amazing 13-month-old daughter named Piper who is the complete focus of our lives. Its great to be closer to our families and our extended Dartmouth family (we even live just a town over from Brian and Maddie (Pooler) Crounse and a bunch of other classmates)."
Speaking of Massachusetts, I'm pleased to report that my old fellow-North-Masser (that s as in the dorm, not the state) Dan Williams has also been keeping busy, joining the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison this past September. "I completed a residency in urological surgery at Northwestern last year and just last month finished a fellowship in male reproductive medicine and surgery at Baylor. The final step of my training is to become a Wisconsin cheesehead, and then all will be good! I'm sure after his other accomplishments, achieving cheesehead status will be cake.
And in more news from the Bay state, Juliana Chittick Tiryaki and her husband, Can, are proud to announce the birth of their first baby, Aydin Bennett Tiryaki, on September 8. "We are finally starting to come out of the haze brought on by the first three months and we are having an amazing time with him. Can and I are both architects living in Cohasset, Massachusetts- where I grew up—and look forward to making our way to Istanbul, Turkey, to visit Can's family whenever possible."
And, as promised, I too am going to drop some long-lost classmate names. I recently received an adorable pint-sized Dartmouth sweatshirt for Danny from Andrea Fiorentino Liebross, an old buddy of mine from the London FSP. She charged me with finding a third roommate of ours, Elizabeth Greenberg. I dug through my magic contact list but unfortunately the information I had was outdated. So Elizabeth, if you're reading this, write in with- what you've been up to!
