If Bill King did nothing more for Dartmouth after 1962 his place in history would be secure. But Bill did more. So much in fact that the Alumni Council presented him the prestigious Dartmouth Alumni Award for "long-standing and meritorious service" to the College and career achievement and community service.

To recap, Bill captained our first undefeated football team in 27-years and was named All quarterback, All-Ivy, All-Ivy Scholastic and Third Team All-American. He was president of his class at University of Virginia Law School and vice chair at McGuire Woods in Richmond, specializing in product liability defense. Bill immersed himself in Dartmouth volunteer work in Virginia, culminating in election and eventual chairmanship of the College board of trustees, where he led the search committee that recruited James Wright as president.

Courageous describes Dave Rogers since his collapse in December from a ruptured aortic aneurysm. Doctors were forced to amputate one leg; but Dave has fought back and this summer was considered well enough to join his family at their recently restored summer home in Machipongo, Virginia, according to his wife, Linda, who has provided unstinting support during the ordeal. A Tuck graduate, Dave founded Heclyn Precision Gear Cos., one of the few manufacturing companies left in Philadelphia. He plans to return to the helm as soon as he can. Steve Brenner, a close friend, has been in touch. Dave would be pleased to hear from more classmates at (215) 514-5021 or (757) 678-7263.

Dave might consider joining us for our 45th reunion, this coming June, but first there's our mini-reunion, October 19-21, for Homecoming Weekend. It will feature dinner Friday night, possibly on Main Street Hanover, parade and bonfire, exec committee meeting Saturday morning followed by football and partying at Dan Muchinsky's beautiful 18th-century home in the countryside and breakfast at Hanover Inn. Overnight rooms are reserved for the class till September 30 at the Comfort Inn in White River For further info, contact mini chair Rick Hashagen, (802) 251-7205, jhashagen@aol.com

My mailbox was not inundated, but two big e-mails commented on the last Animal House item in this column. Bob Worthington '59, ex-Marine who moonlighted as campus cop, said, while he can identify some of the characters in Chris Millers book, "much is a gross amplification and magnification of events and reality." Meanwhile, Chris, whose preface as much as admits to exaggeration, noted that New Yorker Barry Linsky was also present at the Village Pourhouse for the book signing—a fact confirmed by Barry as he was about to depart for a Volga River cruise from St. Petersburg to Moscow with wife Jane, University of Michigan '64.

New York real estate lawyer Gerry Uram appears in the 2007 Chambers USA Guide, a Britishbased ranking service. Class president Marty Bowne and wife Lenore sold their home and moved to 154 Silver Tail Lane, also in New Hope, Pennsylvania. Longtime Vermonter Chuck Racine and wife Marilyn are in eastern North Carolina, where they hope to buy a home.
