Let's face it! There are times when we need encouragement. You've got to call a demanding client. The lawn is growing out of control. The in-laws are visiting. A class column has to be written. Pete DeForth has the answer. He created a CD of 23 songs recorded in concert between 1963 and 1965 by Paul Zeller's Dartmouth Glee Clubs, featuring soloist Tim Ratner and accompanist Steve Kurland. All the Dartmouth tunes are there. If they don't get you going, nothing will. Send $l7, payable to Class of' 63 Reunion, to Peter W. DeForth, 3815 Winterset Drive, Annandale, VA 22003. By the way, $10 of that sum is tax deductible and goes to our class scholarship fund, which has reached about $100,000. Two Dartmouth children have benefited so far.
Ken Foran, law professor and practitioner, was elected to the school board in Alexandria, Virginia; "The only Republican elected to anything here," he says. Ken is on the powerful facilities committee, which is charged with the $200 million rebuilding of T.C.Williams High School, the largest public works project in the city. Having won his first election, he is looking ahead to a possible city council or state senate run in a few years. Ken has had many appointive offices, including counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee and secretary of the Dartmouth Young Republicans Club. He's a native of Hicksville, Long Island.
Don Sherwood, Pennsylvania congressman, has been elected to the University of Scranton's board of trustees. Bill Adelaar has been nominated for a second term as trustee of the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island. Lou Gerstner, retired IBM president, is starting a national commission to improve education. He's also been accepted to study Chinese history and archaeology at Cambridge in England.
Steve Lewinstein, who bears resemblance to David Stern, the NBA commissioner, has become a co-owner of the Boston Celtics. He's focused on sponsorships, promotions and ticket sales. If you're interested in season seats, give Steve a call at (617) 723-8642. His day job is developing and investing in commercial real estate. Marc started Cornell Law School in the fall. Jerry Uram, New York commercial real estate lawyer, represented the Associated Press in a 291,000- square-foot, $l70 million lease at 450 West 33d St., the fifth largest deal in the city this year. The AP will leave its Rockefeller Center digs, where it has been for 65 years.
