Plans are going ahead rapidly for our up and coming twentieth. Ed Senghas' group has already secured the fun and games place plus setting up all of the facilities to make this a gala weekend. It is hoped to be able to include a special tent for teen-agers, since, by this time, many of us own a few. News for this month is very short, but a group of our classmates have done some intriguing things.
Merrill K. Luhman has been elected to the position of assistant secretary of the contract bond department of the Reliance Insurance Company with its headquarters at Philadelphia. Merrill had been manager for the company's bond department in Washington, D.C. After several years' experience in bonding, he joined the Standard Accident Insurance Company in February 1956, as a bonding field representative for the firm's Washington branch. He was appointed manager of that department in 1957 where he remained after Standard Accident was merged into Reliance.
Ed Grady has been appointed Eastern regional sales manager of Harvey Hubbell, Inc., manufacturers of electrical wiring devices, cabling, etc. The following states will be included in Ed's Eastern region: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and parts of Kentucky, West Virginia, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. It sounds as if Ed's home life will be somewhat hampered if he stays on the job; so we wish him good luck.
Bob Prochaska, speaking as a member of the Massachusetts State Colleges Board of Trustees, gave some sound advice at a commencement address that is worth repeating: "Maybe you're tired, and want to rest awhile, or maybe at some time you will feel that you have reached your top rung, don't short-change yourself by quitting too soon. Don't be too easily satisfied and above all continue to learn. If you find a spot you enjoy and are satisfied with it, make sure you continue to contribute. Don't retire at that point and keep it a secret." Doctor Prochaska is manager of the Polycarbonate Research and Development Section, Chemical Materials Division of G.E. and holds a Ph.D. and M.S. from Rutgers University.
