As promised in the last column we have news of the East and West Coast dinners held at the end of April/beginning of May. Since the East Coast dinner has the longest tradistion we will start with the Rene Pujol dinner.
A total of 26 individuals, including 18 classmates, attended the annual New York class dinner at Rene Pujol restaurant. This is the first year we have held it in the spring and the first time that spouses were included. The feedback was good on both changes.
In attendance were Greg and Gail Fell, John and Denise Colangelo, John and Martha Shanahan, Jeff and Judy McElnea, Bob and Joan Augello, Wayne Hobin and his friend Candace Setzer, Don O'Neill, Mike Maynard, Richard Wooster, Jerry O'Brien, Tom McGuane, Mike Furey, Pete Webster, Tony Fitzpatrick, Bill Kennedy, Bob Peters, Pete Ruegger, Janet Rosa (who was welcomed as our newest class member as an adoptee), Charles Augello '03 (Bob and Joans son) and Kathy Rines Duff (who spent her junior year at Dartmouth from Smith).
Special thanks go to John Shanahan and Greg Fell for coordinating the event. A good time was had by all.
Not to be outdone, the West Coast held its dinner the day before (April 30) at I1 Fornaio in San Francisco. The West Coast also invited spouses for the first time for a total of 10 classmates, seven spouses and two '72s. In attendance were Willis and Peggy Newton, Sam and Meg Cuddeback, Bob and Kathy Moore, Dick and Ruth Wenzel, Albert and Janet Lamarre, Randy '72 and Yi Sheppard, John Eaton, Bob Cushman, Donna Litzman, Bob Valkevick, Anthony Sandberg, Barry Abbot '72 and Willie Bogan. Willie has a daughter who is following in his footsteps as an outstanding college athlete (in this case, volleyball). Thanks to Willis and Sam for coordinating.
William Hoover passed along some news that he is finally calling it quits after working 30 years for McKinsey. He will keep his position as dean of McKinsey's mini M.B.A. program, which he has led for the past two years in Copenhagen. William, wife Ingrid and Signe (15) will continue to reside in Holte until Signe finishes gymnasium in four years. William plans to leave numerous doors open for boards, nonprofits, private equity, etc. and would look forward to any suggestions from classmates.
Rick Willets '69 passed along an invitation for our class to join the class of '69 for some Homecoming festivities on the weekend of October 20 against Columbia. Activities include reserving a room (101) at the Hanover Inn from 9 to 11 Friday night for cocktails (they supply the nunchies and there is a cash bar). They have a catered dinner at the Coolidge Hotel Saturday night, which is rumored to be very good. If you are interested please contact Rick (rgwillets@comcast.net).
On a more somber note, we heard that Chuck Thomas passed away.
Keep the news coming.
