Congratulations to Jen Merzon, who married Chris Evans on May 12 in a beautiful ceremony at the Church of the Heavenly Rest on Manhattans Upper East Side. Bridesmaids included Megan Katin, Rachell Katz and Danika Vittitoe, whose sea foam green dresses matched the Big Green spirit of the numerous Dartmouth alumni guests, including Deb Carbonaro, Melissa (Ladenson) DeLong, Cristina Dugan, David Engstrom '93, Nora (Freeman) Engstrom, Jeff Giuffrida '98, Zoe Langsten, Heather Melanson Miller, Emilio Mena, Meghan Pound '98 and Eric Schmidt. After the ceremony everyone enjoyed a lovely reception on a perfect spring evening at the Boathouse at Central Park. Jen and Chris spent their honeymoon in Hawaii before returning to their jobs as associates at law firms in New York.
Several '97s have left their careers to start new businesses or pursue other interests. After working for seven years as a graphic designer for an education nonprofit, Chandra Guglik resigned last year to start an online shop featuring vintage fashion and original designs. She wrote: 'After a crazy time of much preparation and prayer, I am excited to announce that www.chacha-vintage.com is open for business! I hope that Dartmouth alums will come check it out. chacha-vintage.com has lots of fun and wearable vintage clothes and accessories for men and women, plus one-of-a-kind chacha originals' for women and girls."
Following stints in Arlington, Virginia, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Brooklyn, New York, Chandra now resides in Baltimore, Maryland, with her chocolate lab Hershey.
Amy Stein sent the following update: "I have been living in Canada for almost two years now. My apartment is perched up high, looking west into the Pacific horizon. I am living here at the edge of the Western world. I was working before at a respectable place doing the kind of work that Dartmouth graduates often do. I have since quit that position. I do not have children and I am not in a relationship and I have not recently traveled the world nor volunteered in South America. Since quitting my job I have been trying to do nothing. And it is extremely difficult.
"A deep work ethic was instilled in me by my parents, by Dartmouth and most significantly by my graduate school. And I am now trying to understand who I am underneath that work ethic, which is always pushing me to want to do more and experience more and build more. So far I have managed to appreciate the subtle variations of overcast skies. If anyone has recently grappled with this issue of'work ethic, "I am interested in knowing your thoughts on the matter: theamystein@gmail.com."
Anna Ochoa, who works in investment banking, is also a burgeoning photographer. She exhibited her original artwork as part of a Manhattan gallery show, Wish You Were Here: Imagesof Solitude. Annas piece, a digital photograph called Blue Suitcase, taken on the Lower East Side, captures the city's urban grit and humanity and was displayed alongside the works of four other artists.
Class of '97s on hand for the opening included Rich Yeh, who is a consultant at Bain & Cos., Jessica (Mordas) Masella, an assistant U.S. attorney in Manhattan, and Liz Lucarelli who recently finished her residency and is moving into private practice as an ob-gyn in New Jersey and getting married in October.
