TONY GODSICK sits courtside as agent to No. I. When Roger Federer goes for his fourth straight U.S. Open title in New York this September, Godsick will be in his usual spot—the courtside players' box in Arthur Ashe Stadium. "I feel fortunate that I have one of the best seats in the house," says Godsick, a senior vice president at sports management firm IMG. "But I'm a fan too, so sometimes I take a step out of being his agent and really appreciate what's going on in terms of the history and what he's achieving on the tennis court. It's remarkable. But what's really amazing is that when he removes himself from center court, he's one of the nicest, most grounded people you could ever meet." Godsick, who interned at IMG as an undergrad, also represents Tommy Haas, Daniela Hantuchova, Lindsay Davenport and retired pro Monica Seles. He also once managed Anna Kournikova, the most sought-after female athlete in corporate history "I got a lot of requests from young boys who wanted her to be their prom date," says Godsick. "But the wildest request we got was from a Japanese golf club manufacturer that wanted her to endorse a putter. She had no idea how to hold a golf club, but we ended up doing a significant deal." A former Dartmouth football player, Godsick feels fortunate to have combined his love of sports and business in a position that also enabled him to meet his wife, ESPN tennis analyst and former pro Mary Joe Fernandez (the couple has a 5-year-old daughter and a nearly 3-year-old son). "To have spent the last 15 years traveling around the world and meeting so many interesting people, including my wife—it's not a bad gig."
