On Halloween 30 weeks remain until our 30th reunion next June in Hanover. Take the plunge. Plan now to meet old friends and new.
I was not involved with class activities for 25 years. However, since attending our 25th reunion I've been warmly welcomed by my classmates. Please join us for the 30th. Become welcomed yourself.
If you've not yet received detailed reunion info, know that it's on the way. We're actively planning for evening dinners, classmate discussion panels, music, special activities and memorial service. Jim Wasz welcomes all help. Please e-mail jwasz1979@aol.com.
Adam Samuels writes: "I essentially retired from the high-tech world. After 15 years with Apple, Intuit and others I've moved from Silicon Valley to the beach. My partner and I live a block from a bluff overlooking the Pacific. This past week we've had thousands of brown pelicans keeping us company as they stopped over on their migration path to feed on sardines and anchovies.
"Thirty years ago I was taking my first and only course in architectural design. There were eight '79s in the entire class: Chip Debelius, Laura Powers, Linda Button, Scott Kilbourn, David Williams, Steve Schreiber, Mark Horton and myself. We spent many late nights in the drawing studios across from the Hopkins Center snack bar. Some had prior drafting experience and could complete the drawing assignment in an evening. Others, like me, could take a week. Five of the eight ended up becoming architects or urban planners.
"I plan on attending the 30th—I don't think I've missed one yet!"
Glen Colville writes: "My daughter Kate starts freshman year in high school. My son Daniel starts middle school. I'm a project director, doing customer account management for Zilliant, the premier vendor of software to improve pricing for manufacturing and distribution companies. Thirty years ago I played in the Marching Band. I will probably be at reunion."
Bruce McDowell writes: "In 2002 I married Heidi Maurer. Some classmates may remember Heidi as a Vassar '79 exchange student at Dartmouth playing beer pong (with Tab) at Tri Kap and Sig Ep. Her daughter (my stepdaughter) Samantha is entering her senior year at the Sharon (Vermont) Academy and is looking at colleges. Yes, Dartmouth is on the list.
"After DTSS Inc., being a founding team member at Tally Systems and surviving Tally's acquisition by Novell I finally got caught in the 'numbers balancing' to make stockholders happy. Since November 2007 I'm an independent consultant, specializing in software asset management and license compliance.
"Thirty years ago I was on the Rox Stretch. Reunion? A maybe. This is the summer before Samantha heads off for college. I look forward to the new hockey season. I'm a goal judge for the Dartmouth mens team. Someday I'll learn to drive the Zamboni."
Henry Hunnefeld, assistant city attorney for Miami, wrote: "I submitted the [Dartmouth Fund] gift at 11:50 a.m. just before heading out to try the biggest trial in the history of the City of Miami. The technology made it easy and fast." Henry helped our leadership class have more donors than any other alumni class—an accomplishment extraordinaire! Sylvia Racca, Dartmouth Fund executive director, wrote to the class, "It speaks volumes to your commitment to Dartmouth students. Please know that your efforts are deeply appreciated."
Please help locate five classmates currently missing. Donald Austen last in Boston. Eddas Bennett last in Atlanta. Michael Griffin (Foley House) last in Tokyo. Howard Kelly (Alpha Phi Alpha) and Simon Shah last in New York. If you can help us reconnect, please call.
