Greetings from snowyjackson, Wyoming, where the skiing is great this year! By the time you read this our 30th reunion will be around the corner. I hope you have already made plans to be in Hanover. I was fortunate to be one of the 40 women from the class of '78 who attended the 35 th anniversary of coeducation in November. Alessandra Gelmi has a recently published novel: Who's Afraid of Red, described as "A love triangle spanning two continents and cultures [that] maps the j ourney of the human heart and chronicles three individuals in their quest for the authentic." After graduating from Dartmouth Alessandra received her masters degree from Columbia and was awarded a teaching fellowship from Boston University, where she taught creative writing. She is a former member of the White House Correspondent's Association. Her literary awards include the Irene Leache Memorial Prize and the Amy Loveman competition.
Cort Corsones sent the following: "After 25 years of practicing law I was recently (March 31, 2007) appointed by Vermont Gov.james Douglas to be a superior court judge. I am currently sitting on the Vermont District Court in Burlington. I continue to reside in Mendon, Vermont, with my wife of 25 years, Teri, and we have three children: Nick, 20, a sophomore at Notre Dame; Brendan, 17; and Caroline, 13."
John Davis has been working at BB&T in Winston-Salem for the last two years. He writes: "Our son John will be a senior at Furman University and is double majoring in music and history. Our middle child Kimberly is a freshman at Dartmouth, class of 2011. Our youngest Meredith is in high school. We're looking forward to coming back to Hanover more often."
Susan Gilmartin Proulx has been appointed director of financial aid compliance for the Community College System of New Hampshire. Proulx will be responsible for monitoring financial aid operations at the seven-college system to ensure compliance with federal, state and college regulations, policies and procedures. The seven colleges of the Community College System of New Hampshire serve more than 24,000 students annually and process more than $30 million annually in grants and loans on behalf of their students from federal and non-federal sources. Proulx received a B.A. in economics/government from Dartmouth and a masters in business/health administration from the University of New Hampshire.
The National Oceanography Centre of Southampton, England, appointed professor Mike Coffin as research director, a newly created role in which he will lead integrated research at the United Kingdoms national center for marine science. Previously professor and director of the Seismic Research Center at the Ocean Research Institute of the University of Tokyo, Mike is now a professor of the University of Southampton and will also be a member of the National Oceanography Centres executive board. Mike received an A.B. in earth sciences from Dartmouth and an M.A., M.Phil, and Ph.D. in geology from Columbia University. He previously held appointments at Dartmouth, Columbia, Geoscience Australia, the University ofTexas atAustin and thejapan Agency for Marine-Earth Science & Technology, plus visiting positions at the universities of Oslo, Strasbourg and Hawaii.
