Have you ever gone to a basketball game at Dartmouth's Leede Arena? Twelve hundred exuberant fans were there on the wintery night of March 5 to see Brown vs. Dartmouth, a decisive game in quest of Ivy League championship. But, incredibly for Dartmouth veteran alumni, it was the women of Dartmouth vs. the women of Brown. Dartmouth won 67—49 and a few days later defeated Harvard in Cambridge, 77-64. These two wins left Dartmouth and Brown with identical 11-3 Ivy season records. The two teams share the Ivy crown, but the team to represent the Ivies in the NCAA Tournament was determined on a neutral court, at Harvard, on March 13. Regrettably, Dartmouth lost 72-62 in overtime, but the young women made Dartmouth antiquarians proud to have them at the College.

As quoted in the local Valley News, Dartmouth coach Chris Wielgus said, "I don't know, even in losing, if I've ever been prouder of a group of women athletes than I am of these kids ... Not so much because of Godgiven talent, but because of big hearts. They worked really hard and I'm proud of them." And we can toss a few appreciative words to the coach herself.

This is the tenth year Dartmouth women have won or shared the Ivy basketball championship. Last autumn they also won the Ivy crown in soccer, and they have excellent records in lacrosse, ice hockey, track and cross-country.

Sorrowfully I must report that Captain Lawrence A. Waite has passed away. An obituary will follow.
