I hope you are all settling nicely into the New Year. Sadly, we must accept that our year isn't scheduled along the academic calendar. We have no summers and the New Year doesn't begin in late September unless you were smart and became a teacher, a student or are unemployed, in which case it is summer all year round!
Speaking of which, Julie Chang reports that she now has a job, working as a reporter for her local paper in North Carolina, The MorgantonNews Herald. She is covering "crimes and courts."
I'm currently in San Francisco, and I often get to see '07s who are either living here or are passing through town. Lauren Blum was here in mid-December to present her research on space physics at the American Geophysical Union conference. Laura Sheinkopf visited in that same month. Eric Shieh also recently moved to the Bay Area to do medical research at the University of San Francisco, California.
Lindsey Larson is in Washington, D.C., working with National Geographies Genographic Project, which is a five-year research effort to chart human migration patterns.
Peter Cooch sends word from Big Sky, Montana, where he is ski patrolling at the Yellowstone Club. He writes, "It's a great gig, I get paid to ski and do a lot of grunt work. I'm pretty much the only guy on the crew without a truck, gun, dog and mustache so I'm a little out of place but I'm working on it."
Finally, Derrick Smith wrote in to say that he and Jarrett Cato are still inseparable. To give you some history: They grew up down the street from each other, went to the same elementary school in New Jersey, attended Dartmouth College, performed in the Dartmouth Aires and shared a senior apartment. Now they work in New York City as project coordinators for Trans Perfect Translations.
Thank you to everyone who sent updates. I hope everyone is enjoying the end of the winter. As I write from the city by the bay I am jealous of all those who still get to play in the snow. Please keep the news coming and I look forward to hearing from you. Until next time,
