Nice picture of Dave Nutt last month wasn't it? Dave is back in Hanover again after a three-month cruise as skipper of the Blue Dolphin on a scientific expedition to the Arctic. Some of their findings included the discovery of submerged cliffs off the coast of Labrador, heretofore uncharted. The survey was a very worthwhile one from a scientific standpoint, and undoubtedly a whale of a lot of fun for Skipper Dave.
I'm glad Pete Scott writes postcards, 'cause otherwise I'd never have much news from Lee Bye. Pete reports that Lee and Helen welcomed Lee Jr. into the world on May 29. Pete very modestly penned a p.s. telling of the arrival of one Michael Lee Scott on January 23. Golly, here the baby is almost a year old and we're just getting the word from the reticent papa. So while we are on the subject of offspring it's only just to announce that the Stillmans have polished up the old sterilizer, bought a few new nursing bottles, and have been wondering what outgrown clothes of his sister's young Don Jr. can wear. The lad arrived on the 16th of September and missed his old man's birthday, by only three days.
Being rather far removed from where the Green will play football this fall, we're depending upon you fellows more fortunately located to send our way those reports of half-time classmate greeting, and still more important an eye witness account of the post-game festivities.
Guess we've all received a note from "Stu"May reminding us to get those class dues in as soon as possible. I know Stu would much rather write each of us on any other subject but money, but since he is the Treasurer of this august class he has the responsibility of mailing out those reminders. Stu is doing a grand job, and to help him out let's shoot that four bucks in now. Remember we have another reunion 'ere too long—and a fuller class bank account will mean a smaller reunion tax. I'm frankly surprised that the $4 per head tab takes care of our class expenses, DFTDB, a subscription to this MAGAZINE, the greater portion of reunion expense, plus socking away a representative sum to add to our 25-year gift to the College.
This following bit of information is of particular interest, so I'll quote directly from the N. Y. Herald Tribune, of Sept. 18.
Lieutenant Colonel John C. Meyer, top living air force ace in total number of planes destroyed during World War II, has been elected commander for the coming year of Air Service Post 501 of the American Legion .... Colonel Meyer who is credited with 24 German planes shot down in aerial combat is at present on active duty as Air Force liaison officer to the House of Representatives Vice Admiral Charles E. Rosendahl who as retiring commander of the legion post, oldest of its kind in existence, announced the election of Colonel Meyer at post headquarters, 30 Rockefeller Plaza."
Jack will have six vice commanders working under him, among whom is that little-known radio and television personality named Arthur Godfrey. Write Jack for free tickets.
Not many weddings and engagements to announce this month. Guess most of you guys are benedicts now. Anyway here goes on what we have. On September 11 the engagement of Miss Barbara Arnold Jasper and "Line" Bales was announced. Barbara was a Simmons graduate, and they planned to be married in October, but I don't have the date of the wedding.
Tom Conrad was married August 25 to Miss Pamela Storr in Port Washington, L.I., N.Y. Chuck Carleton (b'golly still a bachelor to my knowledge) was one of the ushers.
And on August 6, in Bennington, Vt., Dr.George Guerrieri was married to Miss Barbara May Robinson. George is a practicing physician in Pittslield, Mass., and they are residing in that town—35 Charles Street for any of you that are near enough that vicinity to drop in and offer congratulations.
So that wraps things up for another month. Hope I'll hear from a lot more of you this next month. See you in December.
