A short one this month in order to make room for the extras in this the Annual Fund issue. But if your cheering Democrats and smug Republicans will stay with me there's some news of interest besides that of the stock market reaching another twenty-five year high.

I was pleased to hear from a smattering few of you who took the time to jot a line or two and mail it to yours truly. Keep it coming it's much easier when the crop isn't too lean each month.

I have a certain picture which I was glad to see. A short time ago I received a note from Chuck Rivoire '23. He said in part: "The young man in the picture in the 'D' sweater is my grandson, Charles Thompson Fisher Jr., son of Charles Thompson Fisher '52 and my daughter Susan. As you can see, he has already made up his mind where he is going, but he is not yet sure of the class." Tom, as most of you know, died as a result of an explosion aboard the USS Leyte while that ship was in Boston undergoing repairs in October 1953. I, for one, look forward to the day when I meet Tom Jr., on campus.

Another note received from Walt Lasher begins as follows: "I imagine that you were just about as glad to get that promotion to 'Mr.' as I was. 1 traded my Sgt.'s stripes in for a dark blue suit in early September and am now selling life insurance for the Provident Mutual of Philadelphia." He goes on to say that "the biggest news, of course," concerns a son, Walter IV, born at Fort Sill on August 29. Also he informs me that one Charlie Curtis is in that neighborhood in the sales manager training program with Connecticut General.

Shortly thereafter, according to Bob Lord, the same experience befell him. On September 10 Martha and Bob became the parents of Benjamin Webster Lord. Bob received his M.A. at Yale last June and is presently working for his Ph.D. there. He is studying organ at Trinity College and is choir director and organist at the First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport to boot. Reasonably well occupied, I would say.

Don Rendall writes that he is one of those fortunates that also has said his farewells to the services, having spent 27 months with the Marines all the way from Quantico to Korea. Don is now at Wharton and last September 25 became engaged to Mary Hough. They plan to be married on the 28th of December in Lakewood, N. Y.

Touching here and there: Gerry Lukeman was scheduled to return early this fall from France where he has been serving with the 76th Army Band. Among those seen in Hanover recently were Cliff Fitzgerald and BradKelly. This summer Doc Dey was among those taking part in the 1954 Atlantic Fleet Tennis Tournament held in Newport, last August, I believe. Serving on the USS Albany, he was a member of the Atlantic Fleet "Battleship-Cruiser Force team. For those of you who have ski-minded children (no, I guess I'm rushing it a little), well - know some skiminded youngsters - you will be interested to know that Tony Morse will be the new head ski instructor for the Ford-Sayre Memorial Ski Council this year. That organization has an active program of ski instruction for grade school children in the communities around Hanover. About 500 participated last year. Last winter, incidentally, Tony was a member of the US Army Ski Team which participated at Garmisch, Germany.

From the Fletcher School of Law comes the following note: George Grosshans has enrolled there for what is termed as "a year of intensive study in international affairs." He was one of a group of selected honor students from over 35 American colleges and universities who will be living and studying with advanced students and young diplomatic officers from twenty-odd foreign countries. George is aiming at a career in international business.

The Matrimonial Picture

Boy, the news in this department has been hot and heavy over the last few months. As usual, space is again limited, so I may not cover all the items this time, but here's a continuation of the story. In Fitchburg on the 12th of August, Sherm Baldwin and Betty Jane Tucker became bride and groom. Betty graduated from Cushing Academy and attended the University of Vermont. Sherm is assistant manager of the Fitchburg editorial office of the Worcester Telegram and EveningGazette. They make their home in Fitchburg. On the same day in Manchester, N. H., JimWright was married to Janet Karolyn Sundeen. Janet was graduated from Simmons College in Boston and Jim is at the Harvard Law School in his third year and is a member of the Lincoln's Inn Society of the school. Back on the 31st of July Jim Churchill and Nancy Barrett Wickers were married in Ridgewood, N. J. Nancy graduated from Colby Junior and Wheelock Colleges and has been teaching. Jim graduated from the Harvard "B" School last June and is entering the Navy via the Supply School at Newport, R. I. On the 14th of that month in Needham, Mass., Wendy Sanders Loye became the bride of Danny Hall. Wendy studied both at Mt. Holyoke and at St. Andrew's University in Scotland. Danny graduated from Tuck and is serving as an officer in the Navy at the present time.

Emma Lou Phillips and Dave Abrahams were married on August 29, in New York. Dave's wife was graduated from Fieldston School and Brandeis University. In Worcester on September 1, Gene Rosenburg and Susan Sharfman were married. Gene is a senior at Harvard Law School and Susan attended the University of Michigan and is a senior at Brandeis University. They are living in Cambridge. On September 4 Susan Wahl and Brock Lewis were wed in a home ceremony. Brock is a senior at B.U. Law School and Susan was graduated from Wellesley last June. Jim Wright served as Brock's best man. Ronny Williams and Joan Williams were married the same day in Westfield. Joan is a graduate of Connecticut College and Ronny was graduated from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce at Penn. He is with Lehman Bros., investment bankers, in New York. Still a couple left over, but will have to quit for now.

Consider this a Christmas wish to you all. Happy New Year, and let's hope that the Farmers Almanac is right and that there will be plenty of snow for the slopes this year.
