Bill McLaren called to say that he is still doing okay, despite the fact that his wife is in a nursing home and his eyesight is failing. Says he can still watch TV but has trouble reading books. Good to hear from you, Bill, and I think you are doing great.
Spoke to Herb Suttleworth, who reports that he is still alive and doing well in Amsterdam, New York, but thinks he is the only one in the class who is old. His wife was a member of the Chalmers family, which owned the largest pearl button factory in the country. Says it was my fault that they were forced out of business because I invented synthetic pearl made from durable plastic. Wish I could say that I was sorry about that, but I can't.They just would not pay me to use my process.
I just gave a talk to the Dartmouth Club of Orange County. The subject was: "The Romance of the Button Business." Left this out because it did not sound romantic. What do you think?
Mai Gelof called to say he misses Helen very much. She took care of all their affairs and now the burden is on his shoulders. Wishes she were back so that he could again be a lazy bum.
Ed Reich called to tell me about the great cruise he just took along the coast of South America. Says he feels wonderful and loves living in Florida. Ed, it's a thrill to hear this kind of news. Keep it up.
All of you, enjoy your lives and share your feelings with the class.
