In early July 65 years ago, the original members of the class gathered on campus. There were 185 civilian, 567 naval V-12, and 119 Marine V-12 members. Freshman trip for more than 20 of us consisted of a two-day canoe trip down the Connecticut River from Woodsville to the Canoe Club. The class was augmented by transfers into the V-12 program and by others who started college in 1944 and graduated in 1947 by attending three terms per year. Graduation dates for class members ranged from 1946 to 1950 due to military service, all of which led to a somewhat fragmented class. Russ Fraser writes from Hawaii that he has yet another book published, Shakespeare: A Life in Art. In March he and his wife were taking a trip to Bombay and then traveling around India. Kendrick Kelly relates, from Chappaqua, New York, that after graduation from Thayer in 1948 he spent two years as project manager for petroleum installations in Greece, 10 years in the United Kingdom working on U.S. air bases, one year at Cape Kennedy working on the rocket-launching complex and 25 years with the construction division of IBM building office buildings, laboratories and factories across the United States. Larry Goodman, from Greenwich, Connecticut, saw the Ledyard Bridge pictures in our newsletter and was reminded of a good friend from Alta, Allen Ledyard, who is a Middlebury graduate. Norman Friering '56 (P.O. Box 603233, Providence, RI) is desirous of support for the Rosenstock-Huessy Fund to keep the author's books in print through Argo Books of Essex, Vermont. In late March we welcomed Joe Hayes back from his winter in Anguilla, British West Indies. Keep in touch.
