While thinning my book collection to make way for the model boats I've built in recent years, I rediscovered a volume titled Platform Paddle Tennis. Knowing that his father was one of the inventors of the game and was mentioned in the book, I sent it to Bob Kilmarx. The result was a fine letter from Bob relating some vital information. While attending Dave McLaughlin's memorial service, he re-met a lady named Barbara Landauer Widdoes, whom he had known from their mutual 1928 birth through junior high school. Her father, Jim Landauer '23, a major figure in Manhattan real estate, was a lifelong friend of Bob's father. Barbara and Bob each lost their spouses, of 50-plus years, seven years ago and have decided, without resort to marriage, to enter into a relationship for which they have invented the accurate and imaginative acronym SPEQ (Spousal Equivalent). Well done, Barbara and Bob! A longish phone talk with Nob Hovde reveals that he has completed the remodeling of his new villa in Naples, Florida, while hobbling about with a damaged Achilles tendon. I remember the late professor of philosophy Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy very well as a man of towering intellect. He offered me the best piece of advice I have ever received. If only I had heeded him! Norman Fiering '56 is the president of the board of directors of the Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy Fund, the goal of which is to perpetuate Rosenstock's (see page 38 of the Nov/Dec issue of DAM) memory. He would like to expand the fund's mailing list and can be reached at (401) 487-8008 or at norman.fiering@brown.com. Gordie Hood reports having had a pleasant meeting with John Lindenthal, son of Walt and Ro, while visiting Jo Ann at the Indian River Memorial Hospital, where she was recovering from an incident. John is head of cardiac anesthesia at the hospital. Huge thanks to Joe Medlicott for asking you to help me by sending news.
