These notes would be miniscule were it not for the good offices of Joe Medlicott, whose thoughtful package of Green Cards has been more than helpful. Joe mentioned Cormac McCarthys novel TheRoad in his latest newsletter. "Apocalyptic" is, indeed, an apt description of this story. I had to put it down lest I became totally dispirited. At 81 I find that a world in even more trouble than ours is beyond contemplation. Please, give me grassy uplands and calm seas. How many of us are beginning a new career? The peripatetic Joel Leavitt is! Joel writes, from Pisa, Italy, that "the first solo showing of [his] photographic images" took place at the Maser Gallery in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Joel's book, Captured Moments, attests to the fact that he is much more than an amateur shutterbug. Dave Hitchcock writes that he has joined, among others, Zbignew Brezinsky and Elie Wiesel on the honorary council of the American Friends of Neve Shalom Wahat al Salam, Oasis of Peace. Congratulations, Dave. The Rev. Jim Birney alleges that "old age is finally catching up with" him and Bobbie. Fibromyalgia (Bobbie) and painful spinal curvature (Jim) are no fun. I'm sorry to learn that you have joined the club, Jim. Way back, Gerry Sarno and I played golf on Wednesday afternoons. Gerry modestly reminds me of his recollection that "on occasion" he beat me. I cannot recall any occasion on which he didn't beat me. Randi and I look forward to seeing Gerry and Ginny in February. Class presidencies apparently run in the Ruggles family. Tom reports that his father, class of '21, was president in addition to having served in several other postgraduate offices. Frank and Joanne Dickinson spend their time in three homes located in Ossipee, New Hampshire; Cape Porpoise, Maine; and Winter Harbor, Maine, all while restoring a classic Sam Crocker cruising sailboat Nelse Graves compares son Nelse's tours of duty in Paris, New Delhi, Kuala Lampur and Milan for Reuters News with his 1944-46 tours in Pearl Harbor, Guam, Eniwetok and Sasebo, Japan, courtesy of the U.S. Navy.
