The BlackAlumni of Dartmouth Association celebrated its 36 th anniversary with another successful reunion in Hanover in May. Alums attending included Bill Wilson '90, Joni Wiredu '92, Michelle Castle '00, Mikisha Nation Brown '00, Ricki FairleyBrown '78, Natalie Herring '95, Amanda Brown '07, Hermann Mazard '87, Rashaad Green '00 and Ken '74 and Joan '76 Marabie. The weekend included a tour of the Black Womanhood exhibit at the Hood, several career panels and a tribute to professor Bill Cook. The Saturday night awards dinner was another highlight of the weekend with more than 130 students, alumni, faculty members and staff in attendance.
On August 2 in New York City the Dartmouth Asian Pacific American Alumni Association (DAPAAA) had its banquet gala, a benefit dinner for the DAPAAA scholarship fund. There was an evening of stories and entertainment celebrating DAPAAA's 10th anniversary with past, present and future generations of Dartmouth alums of Asian heritage. In the San Francisco area in June there was a Korean BBQ picnic kickoff event in Lindley Meadow in Golden Gate Park. Our 2008 newsletter is at www.dartmouth.org/affiliated/dapaaa. The Dartmouth Association of Latino Alumni (DALA) is excited about the group's new leadership and promises to bring more programming to Latino alumni soon! DALA would like to congratulate all the recent Latino graduates on their many accomplishments and awards, including Elizabeth Mendoza '08 (Mclnnis Prize), Glavy Cruz '08 (Grimes Prize) and Lena Rochelle Martinez-Watts '08, Jeffrey Coleman '08 and Sarah del Nido '08 for winning Dean's Plate prizes. The group was also excited about the strong turnout of parents, students and alumni at the annual pre-commencement reception at the Latin-American, Latino and Caribbean studies house. Alums in attendance included Jose Ojeda '07, Liz Agosto '01 and Uriel Barrera-Vasquez '98.
The Dartmouth Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Alumni/ae Association (DGALA) celebrated another successful minireunion in Hanover in June. In addition to open houses at the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender resource center in Robinson Hall, one of the highlights of the weekend was the annual DGALA breakfast, where President Wright addressed alums, including Lauren Foley '03, Timothy Stanne '03, Jason Hendrickson '98, Bob Zinnes '80, Jon Hollander '03, Brendan Connell '87, Mickey Carter '83, Jamal Brown '08, Harold Washington '75, Reid Thompson '03, Rick Kraft '83, Mike Jarvis '63, Duncan Nevers '77, Allison Smith '06, Lauren Bozzuto '07 and Joanne Herman '75. DGALA board members back in Hanover for the weekend included Nick Chamousis '73, Dave Dookeeram '99, David Eichman '82, Mikee Guzman '06, Garrett Hornsby 87, Kamil Walji '03 and Peter Williams '76.
The Native American Alumni Association of Dartmouth (NAAAD) celebrates the addition of two new members to the executive board, Drew Rice '74 and Catherine McCarthy Hutasuhut '99. There was a great turnout of NAAAD alumni at the 36th annual Powwow in Hanover on a beautiful Mother's Day weekend. Attending alumni included Janine Avner '80, Daron Carreiro '02, Debbie Atuk Tu '04, Hans Klose '92, Cory Cornelius '07, Marissa Spang '07, Heid Erdrich '86, Woody Vanderhoop '96, Louise Erdrich '76 and Angela Erdrich '87. The NAAAD board would like to thank Cara Wallace '03, Joseph Brewer, the Native American student community and many others for a well-organized and spectacular Pow-wow.
The annual affiliated groups reception in June in Hanover was a fun event despite the rain that cut it short. The affiliated groups thanked Uriel Barrera-Vasquez '9B for all of his help as he leaves Dartmouth to teach middle school in the Bronx. All the best, Uri!
