The winter semester is under way and the first members of the class of 2018 have been selected. Alumni clubs around the globe held holiday gatherings and welcomed the students who were admitted early decision to Dartmouth. The holiday season is always an exciting time of year as local students are back in their hometowns and alumni can reconnect with them.
The Dartmouth Club of Central Massachusetts organized its annual holiday luncheon in December that included Jim Donnelly ’68 as the guest speaker. Donnelly is a partner at Mirick O’Connell Attorneys at Law in Worcester and is also the former president of Higgins Armory (which closed in December), “the only dedicated museum of armor in the Western Hemisphere” (www.higgins.org). Donnelly spoke about the unfortunate closing of the museum and the transfer of armor to the Worcester Art Museum. His presentation drew a great crowd as 34 alumni, students and guests were in attendance. Mike Tompkins ’57 and Tom Bodine ’75 helped plan the successful event.
Dartmouth singing groups performed at sev- eral alumni club holiday events. The Dartmouth Alumni Club of Philadelphia hosted the Dartmouth Rockapellas for its holiday party at the Racquet Club. The Dartmouth Club of Washington, D.C., held its holiday dinner at the Bethesda Blues & Jazz Supper Club with the Dartmouth Gospel Choir. The Dartmouth Club of Hartford held its annual holiday party at the home of Betsy Barth Marantz ’93 and Craig Marantz and welcomed the Dart- mouth Cords to the gathering. The Dartmouth Aires performed at the Dartmouth Club of Rhode Island’s holiday party, which was held at the home of Gray Horan ’82.
Dartmouth alumni volunteers work hard throughout the year to organize and hold many exciting and creative events. Share what is hap- pening in your club so that best practices can be learned and volunteers can be acknowledged for their efforts.
