In early October the Dartmouth Alumni in Entertainment and Media Association (DAEMA) held its second annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. Will Rogers Park in Pacific Palisades, California, was the site for a fun afternoon of polo and badminton. Dartmouth and Princeton alumni came together and enjoyed the day of activities and food. You can check out the pictures of the event on the DAEMA Facebook page. Los Angeles was also the place where many alumni gathered to see the DAEMA alumni band Filligar play at the Roxy. The Dartmouth alumni were proud to see Teddy ’09, Pete ’09 and Johnny ’11 Mathias entertain the crowd and put on a fantastic show! The Filligar Facebook page has great pictures of the event with Dartmouth faces you may recognize.
We travel from one coast to the other as our next update comes from the Dartmouth Club of Suburban New Jersey. Club president David Dietze ’78 reports that the club held its fall luncheon October 19 at Rod’s 1890s Ranch House, in Convent Station, New Jersey. “Our speaker for the event was Dr. Marco Zarbin ’78, professor and chair, institute of ophthalmology and visual science, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School. Marco is a renowned eye doctor and local resident who spoke to us on age-related macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in among older Americans. He shared with nearly 25 club members and guests his insights on currently available treatment options and also highlighted those treatments that are currently in early-and late-stage clinical trials. It was a most engaging and enjoyable discussion! Jeff Dahlman ’70 did a superb job organizing the event.”
The final update is from the Dartmouth Club of Central Massachusetts, which welcomed many Dartmouth alumni, friends and current parents to Worcester for the Dartmouth vs. Holy Cross football game. The club hosted a tailgating event before the game and members commented about how wonderful it was to get to mingle with the parents and friends of the student-athletes. Lance Lazar ’86, Tom Bodine ’75, Rachel Froman Betten-court ’82 and Eric Engelsted ’78 did a great job of getting the word out and organizing the event.
Remember to send in your updates so that Dartmouth alumni know about all of the exciting events that are taking place around the globe. It’s hard to believe the end of the year is so close and the fall semester will soon be over. I hope many alumni will have events to bring the local undergraduates back to the area to share their experiences. And remember to send your pictures for the Club and Affiliated Group Officers Weekend slideshow to the e-mail below.
