Assistant professor of computer science Xia Zhou was awarded a 2017 Sloan Research Fellowship in computer science, a two-year, $60,000 fellowship awarded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to support early-career scientists.
Jeremy Rutter, professor emeritus of classical studies, received an honorary doctorate degree from Uppsala University in Sweden.

»> Professor Tillman Gerngross
was elected to the National Academy of Engineering, which honors outstanding contributors to “engineering research, practice or education.” Gerngross has cofounded five successful biotech companies since joining Dartmouth’s faculty in 1998.
»> Eric Fossum, professor at Thayer School of Engineering, won the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering, the largest international prize in his field. Fie will share the £l-million prize with three other engineers, all involved in image sensor technology.
»> Assistant professor of French Yasser Elhariry won the William Riley Parker Prize for his article, “Abdelwahab Meddeb, Sufi Poets, and the New Francophone Lyric,” published in the March 2016 issue of the journal PMLA.
»> Ambrose Cheung, professor of microbiology and immunology at the Geisel School, has won a 2017 Flarrington Scholar-Innovator Award, which will provide up to $700,000 to the Cheung lab during the next two years.
