REUNION | JUNE 18-21

We have wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. But on June 18, we can cross the River Connecticut and return to the promised land. In part, reunions are about remembering who we were. More importantly, reunions are about discovering who we are now. I look forward to seeing you in Hanover in June to explore the now.

Carolyn Graff Wade, and her husband, Pat, received the 2019 William N. Stiles Award of Merit from the debtor-creditor section of the Oregon State Bar. A graduate of the University of Oregon School of Law, Carolyn is senior assistant attorney general with the Oregon Department of Justice. Fellow lawyers describe Carolyn as a “perfect fit in her longtime role” as Oregon’s bankruptcy counsel. A consummate rules-follower, Carolyn remains willing to think outside the box and consider creative solutions to the no-win situations of insolvency.

Carolyn reports that she and Pat are both in good health, he is enjoying his recent retirement, playing golf as much as his new role as a stay-home dad to their Portuguese water dog puppy, R2, allows. Carolyn and Pat both play bridge regularly, but not as much as she plans to do when she retires in less than 1,500 days (but who’s counting?). Their youngest son, Tom, and his partner, Anna, live in Seattle, where Tom works for the Seahawks in audio-visual, and Anna does graphic arts. Carolyn’s middle son, Chris, and his wife, Liz, are in L.A., p arents of two children, thus making Carolyn and Pat grandparents. Their oldest son, Patrick, works only 40 miles away in Corvallis, Oregon, for HewlettPackard, but they do not see any of their children as often as they would like.

The Illinois Township Association of Senior Citizens Service Committees presented neighboring Oak Park Township and River Forest Township with a joint Township of the Year Award. RiverForest Township supervisor Carla Sloan stated, “On behalf of all the seniors who are at the heart of what we do, we are thankful for the support of our community in providing the funding that is so essential to delivering this ongoing service.” Carla has served as township supervisor since 2009. Townships are units of government independent of village governments. Townships focus on human services, while villages deliver municipal services such as police, fire, parking, and road work. It takes a township to look after old people.

Carla and her husband, Ed, are just one of many classmate couples. Others include John and Susan Bick, Scott and Debra Daggs, Jack and Maureen McElhinney, and Steve Janies and Todd Hermann.

If you want to learn more about these Dartmouth couples, then see you in June in Hanover. —Wade Herring, P.O.
