Our volunteers with Dartmouth clubs and groups continue to plan and organize many interesting events for our alumni community!

Jeffrey Carton ’88 shared that in May U.S. Second Circuit Judge Beth Robinson ’86 and Southern District of New York Magistrate Judge Barbara Moses ’78, presented an in-person program to the Dartmouth Lawyers Association titled “Reflections from the Bench” that was moderated by Ellen Halstead ’98. Also in May the club organized a virtual event, led by Cameron Matheson ’94, on “Election Law.” In June Alexander Blumrosen ’82, Curtis Leitner ’04, and Sam Braverman ’88 held a “Coffee and Conversation” session during Dartmouth reunions.

Shamus Hyland ’11, the current president ofthe Dartmouth Club of Greater Boston, wrote in to share several updates from a very successful past year for the club. The club’s events were well-attended and full of opportunity for members. Community service chair Jane Parkin Kullmann ’01 coordinated activities throughout the past year with Cradles to Crayons, the Charles River Cleanup, the Greater Boston Food Bank, and others. The club continued offering alumni group discount tickets to the Boston Pops, Red Sox games, and Dartmouth athletics throughout the year, including a wellattended pregame partyforthe men’s hockey game in Cambridge. In October the club hosted a tailgate before the Dartmouth-Harvard football game in Cambridge. Thanks in part to the good weather, the attendance on hand for the game was more than 22,000. The club also continued its tradition of outdoor activities, including an ice skating event at the rink in Kendall Square. Special thanks to Peter Van Demark ’70 for once again leadingthe Dartmouth book award program for Boston, with more than 125 high school book awardees. The club’s book award program continued its tradition of hosting an admissions information event for awardees and their parents with special guest dean of admissions Lee Coffin. Starting in the pandemic, vice president Allison Lee ’99 spearheadeda successful virtual book club that has continued inviting alumni authors and Dartmouth professors to discuss their books. Thank you to vice president Elisabeth Lubiak 14 for coordinating the summer Ivy-plus event at the Harvard Club and the club’s new young alumni chairs Jayanth Batch ’18, Angela Cai ’17, and Aiko Laski '17 for an outstanding Big Green affair and other successful young alumni programming, including a “Welcome to Boston” event for newer alums and a send-off event for admitted students. It was great to have Sam Seekins, Tu’21, join the board to help coordinate programming with Tuck alumni throughout the year. In November the club welcomed President Beilock to Boston as part of her inaugural tour. Ian Sarr ’05 worked with the young alumni chairs to plan our annual a cappella holiday party with this year’s guest, the Dartmouth Decibelles. The club also hosted an improv show with the Dog Day Players in December and an event with the Rockefeller Center leadership fellows this spring. The club’s scholarship fund remains strong, supporting nine current undergraduates. Andy Horne ’87 continued leadingthe club’s in-person T-shirt delivery program for newly admitted students. Thanks to secretary and district enrollment director Lou Spelios ’95 for, among other things, continuing to manage alumni interviews during a huge rise in applicant numbers during the last few years. And many thanks to communications chair Carrie Rosenblum ’10, treasurer Hugh O’Reilly ’86, athletics chair William Conner ’85, Tu’87, development subcommittee chair Brian Cusack ’81, Staci Feldman ’95, and Andrew Plumridge ’94 fortheir continued unflagging service to the club and the College. The club is looking forward to another great year and always welcomes new ideas and volunteers!

Keli’i Opulauoho ’96, a’26 parent, shared that the Dartmouth Club of Hawaii (DCH) welcomed admitted’2 8s of Hawaii this spring. Special thanks go to Dr. Tom Kosasa ’67, MED’69, for hosting the lovely event in early April, and Natalia All Yo, parent of a ’26 and ’27, who ran point with a number of volunteers on planning, logistics, setup, and receiving students and guests. Thanks also go to district enrollment director for Hawaii Zoe Leonard ’19, who continues to successfully coordinate all alumni admissions interviewing in the islands (and from afar). A special shoutout also goes to Sophia Domingo ’20, DCH young alumni chair, who encouraged many to participate.

The Dartmouth Asian Pacific American Alumni Association (DAPAAA) cochair Steph Westnedge ’92 provided an update on recent events. The association celebrated the 25th anniversary of its founding with “DAPAAA at 25: Our History, Our Voices, Our Future” in Hanover May 3-5. The event had about 100 attendees who were able to listen to great headline speakers George Takei and Helen Zia as well as many from the Dartmouth community about their important work. The speakers included members of the Dartmouth Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) community and allies demonstrating commitment to diversity and representation. Doug Chia ’93, cofounder of DAPAAA, hosted a lively fireside chat with trustees Susie Huang ’84 and Neal Katyal ’91. Speakers and panelists included Joan Ai ’98, Geeta Anand ’89, Shelley Arakawa ’96, Joanna (Jen) Augenbergs, Tu’08, Alexander Bortolot, Ezekiel la Carlos ’19, Haely Chang, Celia Chen ’78, Jaha Cummings ’95, Krishna Desai, Tu’21, Diane Gilbert-Diamond ’98, Carline M. Durocher ’98, Morna Ha ’04, Julie Park Hubble ’87, David Imamura ’10, Cedric Kam ’68, S. Caroline Kerr ’05, Mayank Keshaviah ’97, Rachel Kim ’98, Eun Lee Koh ’00, Steve Kong ’90, Gina Lam ’92, Daniel Lin ’23, Dr. Adrienne “Tee” Lotson ’82, Maxine Lum Mauricio ’93 (parent of a’21 and ’24), Lawrence Mur’ray, Hoi Ning Ngai ’00, Roshini Pinto-Powell, M.D., Ed Sim ’88, Steven Tseng ’95, Tu’01, Kakeru Tsubota, Tu’23, Cathy Kim Walker ’95, Bernardine Wu ’90, Nora Yasumura, and Hoyt H. Zia ’75, brother to Helen Zia. The group honored Lo-Yi Chan ’54, Dartmouth master campus planner and noted architect, with the Trailblazer Award for contributions as a pioneer in his field and at Dartmouth; and Hoyt Zia, founder and honorary chair of DAPAAA at 25, with the Visionary Award for visionary contributions inside and outside the Dartmouth community; and Douglas Chia, cofounder of DAPAAA, with the Founder’s Award for lasting contribution to the AANHPI alumni community; and Hua-yuan Li Mowry, first female faculty of AANHPI descent to receive tenure and cofounder of the first foreign study program in Asia, with the Legacy Award for lasting legacy for the community; Nora Yasumura, first Pan Asian advisor and assistant dean for Pan Asian students, with the Community Award for outstanding service to the Pan Asian community; and Sarah Gupta ’19, former cochair of DAPAAA, with the Rising Star Award for young alumni leadership. The group thanks all the volunteers that helped make this happen, including Sol Diamond ’97, Daniel Lam ’22, Gim Lau ’98, Lorraine Liu ’22, Jacquline Chappel ’96, Mark Tao ’23, Stephanie Westnedge, Stephanie Yu ’97, and Ariel Xue ’08. And an extra-large thank you goes to the group’s two cochairs, Belinda Chiu ’98 and Brandon Zhou ’22.
