During the past month the Tuck School authorities have been giving a greater number of lectures than ever before. All of the lectures were delivered by prominent New England business men and well attended.
The first speaker in the recent series was Mr. Willard E. Keyes of the business staff of the Youths' Companion, who spoke on: "Advertising and the Development of Trade." Pie dealt exclusively with newspaper and magazine advertising, and gave a comprehensive history of the growth of the practice. Mr. Charles T. Kale of the United Shoe Machinery Company, also dealing with the general subject of advertising, spoke in the Tuck Building, March 16, on: "Publicity: Its History and Modern Development." Wednesday evening, March 17, the speaker was a wellknown insurance man of Worcester, Mass., Mr. D. L. Pettigrew. His topic was: "How Different Kinds of Life Insurance Policy Contracts May Be Used for Business Purposes."
Two illustrated lectures were given by Mr. J. W. Newton, Dartmouth '86, on the afternoon and evening of Friday March 19. Mr. Newman is manager 01 the Yawman and Erbe Mfg. Co., 01 Boston, and spoke on : "The Use of the Card System in Filing and Accounting." In the evenings, March 23, 24, and 25, Philip W. Ayres, forester of Dartmouth College, was the lecturer. General Manager James Logan, of the United States Envelope Co., and Mayor of Worcester, Mass., delivered six lectures, March 25—27, on the following subjects: "Former Business Condition's," "Unintelligent Competition," "Trade Unions," "Industrial Combinations and Consolidations," "Present Industrial Conditions," and "Competition of the Future."
