The college library has received this last summer a most interesting collection of material collected by the late Frederick Chase and presented by his heirs. This includes a large amount of
pamphlet material relating to the college and its alumni, duplicate files of early Dartmouths, old Dartmouth diplomas, Dartmouth Hall lottery tickets, manuscript sermons and letters by Eleazar Wheelock, papers of the Dartmouth Theological Society, and old account books including some kept by Peter Olcott in Norwich, Vermont, in the days of Eleazar Wheelock and by Richard Lang of Hanover, a merchant who once occupied a store on the site of Webster Hall. Of the many account books the most interesting is the student account book, number 5, of Richard Lang. This contained five pages of accounts with Daniel Webster amounting in all to twenty-six pounds.
