Roland E. Stevens made a vigorous personal canvass in his candidacy for the Republican nomination for governor of Vermont, but won only second place in the primary.

At the 29th annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Oto-laryn-gology, held in Montreal September IS to 20, Dr. Horace Newhart of Minneapolis was elected president. The Academy is the largest association of eye, ear, nose, and throat specialists in the world.
