Another barbecue picnic was held by the Southern California Alumni Association of Dartmouth College on Sunday, July 27, at the Rancho de los Tres Hermanos, about thirty miles from Los Angeles. The ranch was turned over to the Association for the day through the courtesy of Harry Chandler, Dartmouth Honorary A.M., who is the president and general manager of the Los AngelesTimes.

The ranch house, a notable example of Southern California's adaptation of Spanish architecture, is located in an isolated district, so that those at the picnic were entirely free for festivities. A baseball game was staged, and several impromptu swimming races.

Those who attended the picnic assembled at 8 o'clock at the home of V. R. Salmger '00 in South Pasadena, and traveled to the ranch in automobile caravan. The picnic lasted until late evening. Those who were present included R. B. Ahlswede '12, R. K. Charles '20, Dan Coakley '14, George Eiseman '22, Roland Foss '19, Leslie A. Hatch '98, Charles C. Hitchcock '16, E. W. Hiestand '10, Ralph M. Kirkpatrick '19, E. R. Legg '20, E. A. Maling '19, E. D. Martin '09, Richard B. Merrill '08, C. G. Milham '06, James J. Norton '08, Charles W. Remele '12, Harold T. Rich '15, J. Leland Richardson '08, Ed Seward '20, Edmund J. Shattuck '10, Ted Swartzbaugh '22, and John J. Troy '12. "Vic" Salinger had as his guest his brother Alec '94.

The Association was privileged to act as host to E. K. Hall '92, and his sons Dick and E. K., Jr., at a luncheon at the Los Angeles Athletic Club on August 14, during a visit that was paid California by Mr. Hall in the interests of the A. T. &T. Co. The luncheon was arranged at a day's notice, but twenty-five members of the association turned out for the affair. Even more wanted to come, but because of hurried preparations a room large enough could not be obtained for all who wished to be on hand.

A wealth of the latest Dartmouth news was given the crowd by Mr. Hall, including some especially interesting material regarding Jess Hawley and the prospective football situation. Among other items of especial interest was the statement by Mr. Hall that he knew at firsthand that the old college was the same democratic institution that it always had been, even in the face of its recent great growth. A brief address of welcome to Mr. Hall was given by Dr. George P. Laton, president of the Association. A Los Angeles lad who is entering college this fall, C. A. Lyman, was among those who heard Mr. Hall. After hearing Mr. Hall's encomiums for faculty, undergraduates, and Dartmouth spirit, Lyman announced that he was going right out to "sell" all of his friends on applying for enrollment at Dartmouth.

Those present at the luncheon included E. A. Abbott '99, R. B. Ahlswede '12, David E. Bradley '03, C. H. Brock '88, Eugene D. Burbank '91, R. K. Charles '20, Stanley J. Gibson '13, J. F. Glynn '09, Charles C. Hitchcock '16, E. W. Hiestand '10, Dr. George P. Laton '06, E. E. Martin '09, C. G. Milham '06, Howard M. Miles 'IS, James J. Norton '08, Charles W. Remele '12, J. Leland Richardson '08, Howard Rockefeller '23, V. R. Salinger '00, Ed Seward '20, George W. Shaw '87, John J. Troy 'l2, Wallace Wright '19.
