Arthur Wells has joined the ranks of the expatriates. This is a fancy way of saying that he is in Cuba. Not, however, as a scofflaw, but as an accountant, in the employ of the justly celebrated United Fruit Company. Other than an address, which is Preston, Oriente, Cuba, he claims to have no vital statistics. In fact he says he doesn't know just what vital statistics are, unless the dates of one's birth and death respectively. Both of which he refuses to give.

"Stout" Pratt's company has placed on the market "Modern Eloquence," in twelve volumes, a high grade set, in excellent bindings, cash or easy terms. "Modern" is right, too. Hoppy's speech on "An Aristocracy of Brains" is one of the features. All orders sent through the Secretary will receive careful attention, and the Secretary will receive a commission. Now that the work is at last on the market, one base rumor is disposed of. It was said by some who should have known better that the motive behind the publication was to perpetuate the classic "The Face on the Barroom Floor," with Elon as the putative author. The true author is in fact unknown. Some attribute it to Demosthenes. But it is omitted altogether from "Modern Eloquence," which ends that controversy.
