BASKETBALL CAPTAIN APPOINTED BY ATHLETIC COUNCIL
November, 1025

H. S. Dey '27 was appointed captain of basketball and P. D. Thompson '27 was made manager of freshman basketball by the Athletic Council at its first meeting of the scholastic year.

Dey, who played regular varsity center last season, will succeed J. E. Picken, Jr. '27, who has been declared ineligible due to scholastic difficulties. Dey made his numerals in both basketball and baseball his freshman year and was on the baseball squad last spring. He is a member of Alpha Delta Phi and the Green Key. Thompson has been appointed to fill the vacancy left by W. M. Pepper, Jr., who did not return to college this fall. Thompson belongs to the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity and the Green Key.

Cornell, Brown and Chicago have been named as the letter games for varsity football while the games with Brown '29 and Princeton '29 are the numeral games for the freshman team.

To win cross-country insignia a man must place among the first three in the meets with Harvard and Cornell, among the first six in the Quadrangular meet with Columbia, Cornell and Penn and among the first two-thirds placing at the Intercollegiates. The Harvard meet is the only one in which the freshmen cross-country team may earn their numerals. Four soccer games have been officially designated as insignia contests. They are Harvard, M.1.T., N.H. State and Annapolis.

The Council voted to award a five-inch green D with a three-inch L.T. on each side of the D to be mounted on a white sweater as the lacross insignia.

In the election of officers for the coming year the Athletic Council named D. Sidney Rollins '04 to act as its head in the capacity of president, while Prof. C. A. Proctor '00 was elected secretary. The other men on the Council are J. C. Wallace '07 and L. G. Hodgkins '00 as alumni members, while Prof. R. D. Beetle '06 and Prof. F. Low 'IS are the faculty representatives. The three major sports managers, D. J. Worthington, football; C. E. Allen, baseball; and E. C. McClintock, track, along with Graduate Manager M. A. Norton 'l9, are also members of the Council.
