The baseball team concluded a summer season, in which they managed to win 3 while losing 7, by edging out the Worcester Nortons by a score of 1-0. Big Hal Swanson delivered a masterful pitching exhibition, whipping a gaudy three hitter past the bewildered bats of the semi-pro outfit. The team rose to these heights only spasmodically throughout the summer, during which they were handicapped by erratic pitching and unimpressive work with the willow.
.... Lieutenant Ellie Noyes '32, USNR, has been named Dartmouth track coach to succeed the late Harry Hillman. During; his seven years with the freshman track team prior to his enlistment in the Navy, Ellie did a splendid job. His knowledge of the intricacies of track and field events, plus his considerate attention to the individual problems of the boys, make him an ideal choice to step into Harry's honored shoes Genial Tommy Dent has begun to whip into shape his current edition of the Dartmouth soccer team. The only returning veteran from last year's aggregation is goalie Danny Carroll, who was recently named captain of the team The cross-country team this fall will be captained by John Hanley, the two-miler whom Harry Hillman took last spring after two years on a battleship and developed into a capable two-miler. Hanley recently won the Walter Scott Mile, the feature of the Annual Caledonian Picnic and Games in Boston. Cross-country will be temporarily coached by Chief Morgan Rodemacher, the versatile Specialist who took over in basketball last winter before Ossie Cowles returned from the wars. .... Aud Brindley, the former Dartmouth basketball player, was in town the other day, wearing the gold bars of a Marine Second Lieutenant. Currently stationed in California, he is hoping to return some time and play off his final semester of eligibility. Needless to say, Ossie Cowles' eyes glisten at the thought Marine Lieutenant Gus Broberg, the greatest basketball player who ever wore the Green, was in town the other day. Recently returned from Okinawa, where he piloted a fighter plane, Gus wears the Purple Heart—and an empty right sleeve FRANCIS E. MERRILL '26.
