The Columbia (Mo.) Missourian of October 12 celebrates the 67th birthday of Prof. John Pickard of the University of Missouri by an extended appreciation of his work, closing with the words used in presenting him with the honorary degree of Doctor of Fine Arts at Washington University last spring, as follows: "John Pickard, student and graduate of distinguished American and European universities, investigator of the art and archaeology of the past, that you might help to promote the art and architecture of the present. For a third of a century you have helped in the work of education as a professor of archaeology and history of art at the University of Missouri. You have shown that your interests were in the present as well as in the past by your leadership in worthy associations of your fellowcitizens, and you have further served the state with distinction as a chairman of the commission in charge of the decoration of our capitol."
