Dartmouth 32—Harvard 9
December, 1925

Harvard's football team, which had up until its encounter with Dartmouth looked to be one of the strong teams of the East, gave Hanover cheering sections a spasm of fright when it outplayed Captain Parker's outfit and scored by means of a drop kick during the first period of the game at Cambridge, October 24.

Four exchanges of punts and a blocked kick gave Harvard the ball in Dartmouth's territory before the Green team was able to shake off an attack of "big-game" nerves. A Cheek to Sayles forward-pass advanced the Crimson team and from the 18-yard line Cheek booted a perfect kick between the uprights for the first score of the day.

But the faltering of the Dartmouth team was checked before the period ended, Lane making two good gains after Harvard was forced to surrender the ball. The attack continued in the second period and though checked momentarily by an intercepted pass was taken up again earnest to produce the first Dartmouth touchdown. Thereafter the outcome of the game was never in doubt. During this second period Captain Parker's team scored nine first downs against a Crimson team which in its previous three games had not yielded a single first down by rushing.

Harvard added six points to the three scored in the first period when late in the third quarter a penalty for interference with the receiver of a forward pass gave the Crimson the ball on Dartmouth's 15-yard line. Crosby scored the touchdown but Cheek missed the try for point. The Cambridge team had previously flashed for a moment when Howe carried the ball 50 yards down the side-line after receiving a punt.

The Harvard play on offense and defense, especially during the first quarter of the game, was, far superior to anything which the Dartmouth team had previously encountered. The Harvard play throughout the afternoon, in fact, was both sturdy and stubborn. In spite of the overwhelming score which the Green team was rolling up the men of the Crimson jerseys fought staunchly and with determination through every minute of the playing time, and the game was no more an exhibition of Dartmouth's brilliance in attack than it was of Harvard's courageous fighting spirit.

Throughout the afternoon both teams resorted much to the open game. Harvard attempting 27 passes and Dartmouth IS. Many of the Harvard passes were desperate fourth period attempts to score and three of the Dartmouth heaves were likewise hasty gestures at the closing minutes. Of the Dartmouth passes eight were completed for a total gain of 171 yards. Five were intercepted. Harvard completed nine passes for a gain of 121 yards and intercepted one Dartmouth effort. The Harvard passes intercepted netted the Green 84 yards.

For Dartmouth Oberlander carrying the ball 24 times gained 100 yards from scrimmage, kicked 10 of Dartmouth's 11 punts for an average of 43 yards each time, and threw 11 of the passes, eight of which were completed. Lane carried the ball 22 times and gained 118 yards for Dartmouth.
