The Singing College Again
NOVEMBER, 1926

College had hardly begun when, at the suggestion of Palaeopitus Dartmouth had its first fall hum as an innovation. With common consent the College set out to definitely reestablish Dartmouth as the Singing College, a title which had been slipping almost beyond recall. And the folio wing weeks saw the student body clustering around the steps of College Hall with the band to practice songs under the guidance of C. A. Randall '27, songleader. "Eleazar Wheelock" was selected after long consideration as the typical Dartmouth song to ring out during the halves at New Haven, the Stadium and elsewhere this fall.

Dr. Richard R. Root '05 has written a new song entitled "Men of Dartmouth, March On" which he plans to dedicate to Dick Hall '27. The lyric is as follows: March On, Down from the Hills Ye Men of Dartmouth, Hear the call. The Old Tradition still upon your altars Keep the fires ever burning higher. Flung to you the torch By men who laughed at death or glory. So, On, On to the flaming goal, Men of Dartmouth, March On! The College band is practicing the music and the song will be sung by the undergraduates at the coming football games.
