DECEMBER 1926

The most ragged and inept exhibition of football produced by a Dartmouth team for several years was on display in Hanover November 6 when throughout the first half of the encounter with Boston University the Green was able to gain but six points. Fumbles and penalties, missed signals, and what looked like an attack of palsy afflicted the Dartmouth team at the beginning of the game and showed no sign of wearing away until Lane scored in the second period. The try for point went wide and as Dartmouth was unable to score again before time was up the teams left the field at the intermission with but a six point margin separating them.

In the third period Lane scored once more for Dartmouth, but it was not until the final quarter of the game that the Green attack began to look impressive against the Boston team. In the final 12 minutes of play Dartmouth scored three touchdowns, Lane and McPhail sweeping the ends and slanting off tackle for long and spectacular runs.

Features of this contest were the appearance of McAvoy, substitute halfback at one of the end positions for Dartmouth, and the ballcarrying of Eddie Dooley who up until this game had not carried the ball in any contest. Dooley swung wide around the Boston right end to score a 15-yard run for touchdown but was called back because of offside play. He registered another impressive gain a few minutes later in the same fashion. Dartmouth was credited with 35 first downs and Boston University with 9.
