D. O. C. WINTER CARNIVAL FILM RECORDS EVENTS
June, 1926

The events of the 1926 Winter Carnival were permanently recorded this year by the Carnival Committee of the Outing Club in a thousand feet of moving picture film. Typical Carnival scenes which make up this movie include a complete panorama of the Campus, the special trains arriving in a blizzard, ski-joring races, the construction of the toboggan slide and the ice palace on Occom Pond, the ski and snow shoe events on the Golf Links, and quick action pictures of the Dartmouth-Yale hockey game.

In addition to these views two series of attractive shots,—the ski jumping, and the night views,—have been featured. It is considered by many that these movies of the jumping are the best which have ever been taken at the D. O. C. jump. Besides the many pictures of the jumpers in air there is a striking silhouette of the jumpers, slowly climbing, skis over shoulder, and then, lightning-like descending the steel trestle.

The other attractive series of shots is of night views of Dartmouth Row lighted, and of the brilliant "Outdoor Evening" on Occom Pond. These are truly remarkable night pictures, and speak well of the work of the photographer, Mr. Harry B. Cuthbertson, a student at M. I. T.

The film, which can be run through in from fifteen to twenty minutes, was shown for the first time in Hanover on March 25. Since then it has been shown to alumni gatherings in Newton Mass.; Cleveland, Ohio; Toledo, Ohio; Chicago, 111.; Rockford, 111.; Des Moines, Iowa; Omaha, Neb; St. Louis, Mo; Montclair, N. J.; and Syracuse, N. Y. In a majority of these cities the film was shown in conjunction with the Spring trip of the Musical Clubs.

The Outing Club hopes that, if funds are available for the purpose, it may be able to produce other films next year showing the various activities of the club in the out-of-doors. Pictures of the Mount Washington trip, or of weekend trips at the cabins in the D. O. C. chain will doubtless furnish material for future reels.

This new film of the 1926 Winter Carnival is now available for bookings by Alumni Associations, individual classes, and interested college and high school groups. Correspondence relative to it should be addressed to the Secretary of the Outing Club, Mr. William P. Kimball.
