On July 22 Edward Tuck '62 was the recipient of the insignia of his promotion to Grand Officer in the Legion of Honor in recognition of his benefactions to Paris and the French nation. The latest gift is the estate of Bois Preau, presented to France by Mr. and Mrs. Tuck. The presentation of the plaque indicative of the promotion to Grand Officer in the Legion of Honor was made by Monsieur Edouard Herriot, Minister of Public Instruction. Monsieur Herriot expressed the thanks of the French government to Mr. and Mrs. Tuck for all their benefactions recalling their founding of a hospital which bears their name, their gifts to the city of Paris, and their contribulion to the development of the schools. In conferring the plaque Monsieur Herriot spoke of his pleasure in presenting a distinction rarely conferred. Mrs. Tuck, who was decorated as an officer of the Legion of Honor after the war, was present at the ceremony.
Aside from founding and maintaining the Hopital Stelle and the school of Domestic Economy at Rueil near Paris. Mr. Tuck is also the donor of a priceless collection of works of art to the city of Paris.
This latest gift of the estate of Bois Preau is contiguous to Malmaison where repairs and additions will be afforded by Mr. Tuck's donations. Malmaison is so intimately associated with Napoleon and the Empress Josephine that in conferring the distinction Monsieur Herriot could appropriately remind his hearers that it was at just this place that Bonaparte had created the Order of the Legion of Honor.
