Dartmouth 39 Princeton 23

The Dartmouth swimming team won a spectacular 39 to 23 victory over Princeton in the Spaulding Pool at Hanover February 19 when Bryant '29, the sensational Dartmouth sprinter alone accounted for 18 of the Green's team's points. Bryant won both the SO yard and 100 yard swims and, as anchor man on the 200 yard relay team, made an astounding finish in that event to capture the meet. In the last 15 yards of his 50 yard lap he overcame a two foot handicap to win by a scant margin. The victory in this event gave the meet to Dartmouth, as otherwise the score would have been tied at 31 points for each team, and Princeton as winner of the water polo game would have been awarded the decision. McCaw's time of 1 minute 47 seconds in the 150 yard backstroke event equalled the pool record. Leigh, competing in this third intercollegiate meet for Dartmouth, surprised the audience by winning the diving from the veteran Michales. Dartmouth 40—C.C.N.Y. 16

Dartmouth won a 40 to 16 victory from the College of the City of New York in the Spaulding Pool, March 12 in a meet featured by the breaking of two Dartmouth records. At the same time the Dartmouth water polo team won the first victory of the season by a score of 30 to 20. Exceptionally close finishes characterized each race although the New York team won only one first place and two second places. The most exciting race of the evening found Langworthy and Russell, both of Dartmouth, struggling to win the honors for the 440 yard distance. Russell won the race with a time of 5 minutes 46 4-10 seconds, establishing a new Dartmouth recsrd. In a later race McCaw, of Dartmouth, established another college record by swimming the ISO yard backstroke event in 1 minute 46 8-10 seconds. Michaels and Leigh, of Dartmouth, finished well ahead of their New York competitors.

Dartmouth's first victory in water polo came after an uphill fight which saw the Green team trailing at the short end of a 17 to 6 score at the end of the first half. At the opening of the second period, however, the Hanover swimmers went into action with a rush in which Marsans contributed one thrown goal and Brown and Osborn each added touch goals. Wenck, of Dartmouth, accounted for 11 foul goals.

The conclusion of the Intercollegiate Swimming League schedule found Dartmouth, in its first year as a member of the league, in fourth place. In water polo the Green team was tied with C.C.N.Y. in the cellar position. Yale's undefeated team was at the head of the list, with Princeton and the Navy following, and Syracuse in a tie with Dartmouth by virtue of its unexpected victory over the Green. Bryant, Dartmouth's sophomore sprint star was third in the individual scoring list, having accounted for 59 Dartmouth points. He was but three points behind Wright, of Columbia, the water sprinter who went through the entire league season without a defeat.
