Ample snow throughout northern New England has provided Dartmouth skiers with their busiest season in recent years and every weekend has seen Big Green competitors in action. In this short space we can only chronicle two highlights since the Dartmouth Winter Carnival victory.
On the weekend of February 23-24 Coach Walter Prager's men continued their winning ways by annexing the Middlebury Winter Carnival title by totaling 584.03 points to Middlebury's 563.95, with the University of New Hampshire third. Dartmouth's sophomore ace Bill Tibbitts won the coveted Skimeister award with a fifth in the slalom, sixth in the downhill, seventh in cross-country and 14th in jumping.
On the following weekend of March 1-2, St. Lawrence University in Canton, N. Y., was the scene of the 1952 Senior Division EISA Ski Championship Meet and the Big Green's winning streak was finally snapped as the Middlebury Panthers edged Dartmouth by a 575.2 to 571.6 score. Individually the Indians did well with Murray Kirby taking first in the slalom and sixth in the downhill for first place in the alpine combined, while Charlie Tremblay's first in the jump and 13th in the cross-country race won him first in the Nordic combined. However, lack of depth in finishing hurt the Big Green's chances for victory.
Of particular interest to alumni ski en, thusiasts will be the Harvard-Dartmouth slalom scheduled for April 26 at Tuckerman's Ravine. Three divisions will be competing in the race—the varsity teams from both institutions, an undergraduate team from both, and an alumni team. Entries for this meet are unlimited and alumni are encouraged to come up and participate. Entry blanks and additional information are available from Phil Parshley at the Dartmouth Outing Club in Hanover, but should you decide at the last minute, entries will be accepted right up to race time at the Pinkham Notch Camp.
