A St. Louis paper of April 9 says: "At a testimonial banquet in his honor at the Chase Hotel last night, Judge Walter H. Sanborn, with characteristic dignity and modesty, listened to the tributes heaped upon his personality, his honesty, and the judicial service rendered by him during the thirty-five years he has been a member of the United States Circuit Court of Appeals. Associates on the bench and prominent members of the bar from many of the thirteen states in the Eighth Judicial Circuit lauded the diligence with which he pursued his judicial duties, his honesty and integrity, but for the most part the barristers stressed the soundness of the judicial opinions rendered by the venerable jurist and his wise interpretation and administration of the law. As evidence of the diligence with which he has pursued his duties it was cited that during his tenure of office on the bench he has written and issued 1450 opinions, an average of forty a year."
