Brown won a slipshod game of ball from Dartmouth at Providence May 28, after the Hanover players had presented the Brunonians with a four run lead in the first inning. Brown scored two more runs in the fifth inning and went into the eighth with a six-run lead. At this stage of the game Billings, who had been pitching well for Brown, suffered an attack of wildness and passed the first, third, and fifth batters to face him. A wild throw, two passed balls, and an error at the plate assisted the Dartmouth team further, and to make the count exactly even Randall dropped an infield hit to permit two more runs.
Billings pitched an excellent game for Brown, striking out 11 men and allowing but five scattered hits. Van Riper who started on the mound for Dartmouth was replaced by Harris in the fifth inning.
