NEWTON CABIN DEDICATED
AUGUST, 1927

On Commencement Sunday, June 19, a number of alumni from the middle '80's and others interested in the work of the Outing Club attended the dedication of the Newton Cabin, the fifteenth in the Outing Club chain, and the gift of James W. Newton '86. The cabin is built of pine logs cut on the Newton farm and is. the second log cabin belonging" to the Outing Club, the other one being located at Holt's Ledge. It has a most attractive fireplace of field stone and a flagged porch looking toward the west. It will accommodate a maximum of eight men and will, without question, be one of the most popular cabins in the chain as it offers an opportunity for overnight use on any day in the week and not merely for weekends as is the case with the other cabins. Also it opens up a new route particularly favorable for skiing between Hanover and Happy Hill. One of its chief attractions is a never-failing spring coming out of a ledge about fifty yards to the west situated on the land deeded to the College by Mr. Newton.

The following were present at the dedication: Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Newton 'B6, Professor George D. Lord 'B4, Professor Arthur W. Fairbanks 'B6, Dr. Gilman D. Frost 'B6, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Hatch 'B6, Dr. A. P. Richmond 'B6, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Huse, Dr. and Mrs. W. M. Lougee 'BB, Miss Berry, Eugene F. Clark 'Ol, Carl E. Shumway 'l3, Evan A. Woodward '22, Richard J. Lougee '27, Daniel P.
